This multipurpose tool created a stir in the kitchen when it came out, as the food processor did a generation earlier. In order to blend, whip, and chop smaller amounts of ingredients, it's no longer necessary to wrestle with bulky appliances. Immerse the 7-1/2-inch blender shaft, with its little blade on the end, into a pot where vegetables have been simmering, press the switch, and in seconds a creamy soup appears--with no need to dump everything into a big blender. Blend sauces and baby foods in their cooking pots, too. Blend a milk shake or juice drink right in its drinking container, or in the 2-1/2-cup beaker included in this set. Whipping cream and egg whites is just as convenient: a 5-inch whisk attaches to the motor when the blender is removed. For chopping nuts, herbs, garlic, or onions, there's a 2-cup chopper bowl with a special blade. The motor with the attached blender shaft can be mounted on a wall (mount included). Everything but the motor and the chopper-bowl top (both should be wiped with a damp cloth) can go into the dishwasher. This tool is more than handy, it's a revolution. The instruction sheet, unfortunately, is harder to comprehend than the tool is to use. --Fred Brack

Well, this is certainly an improved model over the one I bought 10 years ago. IMMENSELY improved, and I love it so much I am, well, looking for things to beat up. Like pureed vegetable soups, frozen yogurt mix for the freezer, you name it.
Here's what has been made so much better:
1. The attachments that used to come with the Braun were run by the actual cutting blade. With this model, you can remove the blade portion of the stalk and screw the motor shaft onto the mini-chopper or whisk. I just love that!! The older chopper was hard to use because you had to hold it carefully in the socket designed for the blade to run the shaft. That's not a problem here --now the shaft of the blades are directly connected to the motor. A huge improvement.
2. The removable stalk means you can thoroughly clean the blade portion without worrying about submersing the motor part (a no-no for any electrical appliance.)
3. Because the motor is able to be detached from the blades, it is now more powerful--before, the motor seemed "dumbed down" to be able to run the mini-chopper. This new model motor kicks serious batter. In fact, it is so strong, make SURE YOU HAVE IT SUBMERGED in the puree before you run it or you will be spewing gazpacho all over your white kitchen. (I made gazpacho. I have a white kitchen. I know whereof I speak.)
4. The price, for this gem, is incredible. You get a whisk, a mini-chopper, the blender and a mixing beaker and a hanger for the wall if you want to mount it.
5. The one bad point: the motor is VERY strong, so if you have muscular weakness, carpal tunnel syndrome, or some kind of disability that challenges your hand control, I would recommend the variable speed model which goes from slow to fast. It is more money, but if you are physically challenged, it will prevent you from splashing hot soup as you puree it in the pot.
Otherwise, I can't recommend this enough. It is the most-used item I have in my kitchen.
But it's sooooo convenient. I used to use a 1970s blender to make them, and it's a chore to drag it out of the cabinet, plug it in, attach the blade to the base to the jar to the top, and then jiggle that onto the blender until it locks in. I ended up skipping my pre work shake alot of times in the past. Now, it's part of my morning ritual, and I have enough time to make a lil something extra to eat as well. eggs, bacon, oatmeal, whatever.
* Small form factor, doesn't take up alot of space on the counter. It comes with a rack for all attachments that you can put up in the kitchen, too.
* easy to clean the (removable) blade attachment. easy to clean the mixing cup. I usually just put a drop or two of soap into the cup, and run hot water into it while I run the mixer attachment. 90 seconds cleanup, tops. Occasionally, I'll throw it in the dishwasher. Not sure if I'm supposed to do that, but it still works fine. Cleaning the aformentioned blender takes a lifetime in comparisin.
* mad torque. I saw a review that states that you should make sure the mixer attachment is at the bottom of the cup before mixing. no lie.
I haven't used any of the attachments, but I could find a use for them if I needed to. They seem well built.
The plastic cup has gotten a little cloudy with use, but that doesn't bother me. I wasn't expecting fine crystal at this price.
Cordless would be bonus, I'd hate to sacrifice the torque though.
And the cup isn't small by any means, but a few extra cups of capacity would have been nice. If you put in more than about 16 cups + powder / fruit and blend, spills can occur
My husband has pureed soups right on the stovetop. I whip cream and egg whites; puree fruit, mince garlic, chop herbs and nuts in the little chopper attachment. Change attachments in seconds and move on to the next job.
Last summer I was in a cook-off at the Fairchild Garden Mango Festival, here in Miami. We had to prepare our dishes for the public in a banquet hall and provide all of our own utensils, etc. I wasn't going to schlep my 50-pound stand mixer, so I took the Braun Multiquick. I made a Mango Creme Brulee using nothing but this handy little tool: Pureed the mango with the puree head, changed to the whisk and beat the eggs & sugar and blended the rest of the custard. P.S. - I won!
Small, light, super-versatile and easy to clean. What else could you possibly want?
