The Braun Epilator Silk-epil works as expected; however, my tolerance was not as expected. As a shave and trimmer, this is really great and I am happy with the results. I will continue to use it for those purposes. I am not able to use it for hair removal as intended. I believed that I would be able to tolerate it, but I was wrong. It's not quite a once-and-done, you would need to go over the same area a few times to get the full results. It does work as stated to remove the hair at the root and I'm sure would produce lasting results if you can stand it. Compared to other electric shavers and trimmers at the same cost that I have tried this one is more effective. I am happy with my purchase even though I can't use it for a more long-lasting solution.

To begin - I am moderately hairy -thick and coarse and am no stranger to pain. I have done my own waxing - including learning some hard lessons during at home Brazilians. I am also well tattooed, do marital arts, and have birthed children.
I also make my own shave soap that is great but frankly, I am sick of razors and the waste they create so I just threw in the towel and grabbed this little gem.

This thing was a brand-new sensation for me.

First of all - it looks like an inspiration for a device used in the SAW movies and I was a little scared to touch it to my skin. It feels like there should be some kind of guard on it. Nope. I finally just said "screw it" and dove in since I was sick of my legs looking like a cactus - its 100 degrees out today and I want to wear shorts and a swimsuit without prickly chub-rub.
This is what I found... Waxing is one big strip o discomfort... this little device makes you feel every hair as it screams for its life embedded comfortably, and in my case deeply, in my legs and nether regions. My husband who is a seasoned firefighter/paramedic came to check on me 3 times given the noises I must have been making. After a while of being in pain I will just start to laugh (its a defense mechanism I guess) .
When I got to that point he just left me alone.
Did I mention I was doing this on my back deck?? (don't worry we live in the woods) because I realized that there is no place for the hair to be stored so it falls onto the floor like the needles of a dried up Christmas tree and the dogs were getting too nosey.

At any rate - it took SEVERAL passes and I had to force myself to slow down. Places I thought would hurt were not bad (top of toes - back of knees) Places I knew would hurt (knees, top of bikini area - the very private in-between) they hurt but never to the point where I had to stop.
What is nice is that I could control where I was going and how far in I was going... with wax, once its on... tough toenails - ya gotta rip it off. I liked the control. I also like that I can do this for about 1/6 the cost of a single wax job round my way (if I'm not doing it myself) with no sticky mess and now I own this hair eating machine.
I also like the fact that I can bust this thing out with no effort and do the touchups. I am not smooth as silk - I think I will need to use this consistently to get that - but it's a good start and Ill keep going.
It is clear subsequent uses will be much easier and less painful.
I will never use this on my pits as I am way too sensitive there. I may also still wax the starfish because my flexibility isn't what it used to be and this thing requires a decent angle and the ability to stretch the skin whilst using it.
Overall - its done its job with tolerable pain. If you can take waxing - you can take this. If you have never waxed and this is your first go with ripping your hairs out... you are in for a treat but its almost better because its self inflicted and allows more control over the surface area.

I can update concerning longevity after I use it several times.
Good price - Works well - Will save you $$ in the long run if you keep up with it.

Reading all the reviews before purchasing, I thought I would be in miserable pain using this product. It’s slightly uncomfortable (to me) and worked pretty well. The light is very bright and easy to see with. The only downside is that you have to be attached to the cord to use it since it plugs in, which can limit where you can use it. I had never used one before but my legs get hives and rashes from shaving no matter what I use. I was keen to try something different and I’m glad I did. I had slight irritation for about an hour afterward and that was it! My legs are smooth and don’t have hives, welts, irritation or itching from regrowth.

This thing is fricken great! As a woman with PCOS, I’ve been shaving and waxing for a long time. I’ve been using Flamingo wax strips for a couple years now but I can’t say they ever really get “comfortable” to use. They’re also costly. This thing has paid for itself already. I’ve used it on everything from my face to my bikini area and it’s so good. The first few times it’s painful but it’s not unbearable. It does ease with time which is nice. I always apply Finipil after and haven’t experienced any irritation or ingrowns yet. The only downside is that it isn’t cordless but it’s really a non-issue considering my proximity to plugs when I use it.

Only dislike is that I have to plug it in to use and the chord isn't exactly that long. However, I hated shaving almost everyday and stayed getting skin irritations from it. Now I'm hairless and don't shave!! The hair seems to grow back thinner than before and I can barely tell if there's hair growing. That's when the light comes in handy in finding any missed hairs! Wish I found this year's ago, but I'm happy to say I have it now!

This product works well, but MAKE SURE YOU EXFOLIATE BEFORE USING IT, & IT DOES HURT when using it on the chin, cheeks, & neck! It works really good, but I suggest buying a numbing cream if you can handle pain. 9/10 would recommend:)

Okay I bought this not expecting much. I ah e been using it for the past five days and I’m already loving it. I have waxed my legs before, Brazilian, armpits etc. I bought it to start training my leg hairs to grow slower so that I do not have to shave as much. It is not that painful, you get used to it very quickly. I have not only done my legs but my armpits and part of my face. I know it says not to, but I’ve tried it and. I problem. It has been so smooth. I even tried my bikini line. I am really loving this product. I highly recommend. The roller applicator sometimes falls off but not a big deal.

I purchased this item for a few reasons (none of them included being a masochist). I was tired of the cost associated with buying disposable razors, and I was tired of the waste produced by disposable razors. (I’m cheap and suffer from garbage related guilt). Plus, it said it was made in Germany, and I thought, “If any culture is going to rock at personal torture devises, it’s going to be the Germans”.

I’ve had the pleasure of using this item thrice, in mostly all areas except super close to my lady bits (because I’m a coward). It is true that it hurts less the more frequently you use it.

The nitty gritty:
Legs - works well. I find you have to do a few passes over the same spot to get all the hairs. Not terrible. As I was an epilator virgin, I anticipated that my legs would feel soft and smooth, akin to when you shave, but they don’t. You don’t get visible hairs, but it still feels stubbly. It’s like child birth - Once it’s over, you forget how much it hurt.

Armpits: Holy mother, does this area hurt the first time. It’s an awkward spot to de-hair yourself, so it takes longer than originally anticipated. Make sure your pits are dry. With this I only have to address the pits maybe once a week, instead of several times a week with shaving. Maybe have a few drinks before you tackle this area for the first time if you have a low pain tolerance.

Bikini line: Next time will do with wine. Lots and lots of wine.

Facial hair: So, this is the area that surprised me the most. I get small dark hairs near the corner of my mouth (kitty whiskers), and it took those out no problem. And then I tackled my goat hairs (chin), and Shazam - I don’t have to pluck. But the super awesome surprising bit is that it also gets rid of that really fine, barely visible to the eye facial hair. It generated little clouds of fine hair fluff that floated around my bathroom and landed gently on the floor. Now my jowls are as smooth as a baby’s buttocks. And I really need to vacuum.

Despite how I've made myself sound, I’m not a superbly hairy woman (Ginger of European descent (more moley than hairy (thanks Oma))). Any one who has darker hair and is self conscious about it on their face, I highly recommend this product. But please, use common sense and tie your hair back before using this beast. It removes hair, not stupidity.

All in all, I’m very happy with this product, and would recommend it to all other cheap masochists who have a desire to be partially silky smooth.

Very painful, but works really well. Basically, exactly as I was expecting. The pain gets less and less bad with uses though. It's like you get used to doing it and then it doesn't hurt quite as much. It works well, although you do have to take your time, be patient and continue through the pain (especially the first times).

It's worth it though as it leave the legs smooth and you only have to use, in my case once every three weeks, and I guess more or less often depending how fast your hair grows, but not every day or even every week for sure. In my case, the hair takes a bit more than 2 weeks to start showing up again.

I've done it 3 times now. The first time, I wanted to die the whole time I was doing my armpits. The second time was kind of bearable. The third time was sort of ok. Anyway. Good luck!

I was pretty skeptical buying this but I figured it was worth the 50 bucks. Turns out it definitely is! Works great on short hair and medium hair, but not so much on stubbles and fully grown hair (works but not as effective). I’ve tried this on my arms, legs, armpits, and even the bikini area and I have to say it works great! The only part I had a problem with was the bikini as it was super painful and sometimes the rotating head would get stuck because of the skin, so make sure to pull the skin. Also you do have to go back in a few times but that is to be expected. Have not tried the shaving head yet. Overall 9.5/10
