5 stars, Top Pick "I loved My Brave Highlander. It was an excellent read. The characters were written extremely well, all of them. I fell in love with them from the beginning. Isobel and Dirk are great together..." Night Owl Reviews
"I have truly enjoyed Vonda Sinclair's Highland Adventure Series and Dirk is probably my favorite of all the highlander men. He is totally Alpha Male and somewhat of a loner, seemingly very uncomfortable expressing his tender emotions. In the previous two books in this series, he has always been in the background, supporting the other leading alpha males, yet always at the forefront of every single battle - the best and loyal friend and having everyone's back...Great love story, a good background plot, interesting lesser characters." "The characters are so lively and bewitching. It was refreshing to see a female character not afraid to go after what she wants. Dirk and Isobel's love story was enchanting. This is a must read for any highland romance lover." J. Gerber (Kindle Customer)

All of the books in the Highland Adventure Series by Vonda Sinclair are standalone books, but they are interrelated. Hope you enjoy them!
My Fierce Highlander (Book 1) EPIC Award Winner
My Wild Highlander (Book 2) National Readers' Choice Award Winner
I loved this one! Highlander books are totally my guilty pleasure! This one was about Dirk and Isobel .. betrothed to another she's completely off limits to the new Laird ... but being bad is so much fun! Haha the back story kept me interested and I can't wait to see what the future hold for Dirks cousin Keegan!!
I give this a 4.5 stars. As another review said if you like the bedroom scenes they do not happen until about 2/3's of the way thru on this one. I kind of figure that out from the first since you had to deal with her being betrothed to someone else. Dirk is of course different from the heroes in the first 2 books, as he does not really know how to talk to women. He has bedded a lot of them, but never really talked to them. He is more the silent type. In one scene where Isobel is trying to get him to take notice or her, he is basically just answering her with one word. He is jealous of his friend Rebbie because he talks to her, and is charming, where Dirk doesn't know how to act around her. The fact that he can not have her, because she is betrothed to another, only makes it worse. It is kind of cute how backward he feels around her. Isobel ran from her betroths home because his brother tried to rape her while her betroth was away. She has no intention of going back to him. She is extremely attracted to Dirk, and constantly puts his honor to the test, since he doesn't want to touch her while there is still a chance her brother will force her to go back to her betroth Torrin who is in book 5. Plus with trying to take his rightful place as chief of the clan, he does not want to start a war with his ally. It is still a good fast read, and a good story. However a few of the villains in this story get away, and at one of them are not taken care of for at least a few books since it mentions him in the description of book 5. Book 6 is not out yet, so do not know if Haldane will be in it or not. For such a young villain it would seem he gets away a lot.
It is series like these where I wish all the books were already out, as I do not want to have to wait for the rest. At the end of this book it says there are stories for Rebbie and others. So book 6 will hopefully be about him, and then maybe she will do a story about Isobel's brother Cryus, since book 4 is Seona and Keegan, and book 5 is Jessie and Torrin.
This author deliciously draws you in to her storytelling. Dirk and Isobel's story was really good. Dirk had survived an attempted murder 12 years prior. His evil step mother wanted him dead. He assumed the last name of his mother's family and only a handful of his family knew he had survived. With his father at his death bed, Dirk knew he had to return. It was time. On his way to see his dad and accompanied by faithful friends, he stumbles upon a beautiful lass. He realizes he had met her when he was younger...Isobel.
Isobel fled with her maid in terrible weather because of a terrible ordeal at her betroth's castle. A handsome warrior rescues her from the terrible weather and takes her with him and decides to protect her.
These two face so much together. With wants of murder in the air and something growing between them, they must face obstacle after obstacle.
Such a great story. I look forward to the next one.
I have truly enjoyed Vonda Sinclair's Highland Adventure Series and Dirk is probably my favorite of all the highlander men. He is totally Alpha Male and somewhat of a loner, seemingly very uncomfortable expressing his tender emotions. In the previous two books in this series, he has always been in the background, supporting the other leading alpha males, yet always at the forefront of every single battle - the best and loyal friend and having everyone's back. I was glad to get a better understanding of his persona and this book does not disappoint.
Background: At the end of Lachlan's and Anglique's book, "The Wild Highlander," Dirk leaves his friends to return to his boyhood home -Dunnakeil Castle on the far north coast of Scotland - after receiving a letter stating his father who he has not seen in 12 years is near death. It seems Dirk had a wicked stepmother who was beyond cruel to Dirk from the time he was a very young boy and eventually attempted to have him murdered. Dirk's father would never believe Dirk when he told him about her cruelty. Finally, after her last murder attempt, Dirk's uncle sent him away and allowed everyone to believe Dirk died. Now, Dirk is heading back home hoping to find his father yet alive so he can see him before taking up his duties as Chieftain of the MacLerie Clan.
It seems Dirk cannot get away from all his friends, however, because good old Rebbie refuses to let Dirk travel the long hard trip back to Dunnakeil Castle without some company. As they near the end of their long arduous journey, traveling in the cold snow, they come across Lady Isobel and her maid who are braving the cruel weather on foot. They immediately take the ladies under their protection and eventually learn that Lady Isobel is the betrothed of Chief Torrin MacLeod, but has fled his home after an attempted rape by his brother.
There is no choice but to take Isobel along with them to Dunnakeil Castle where Dirk must prove he did not die and that he is his father's heir. He faces two half-brothers - Aiden, the older who is the current Chief and Haldane, the younger, as well as his hateful stepmother. Aiden welcomes his brother but Haldene, his mother's son in every way, is determined to do everything in his power to keep Dirk from taking his rightful place as Chief of the MacLeries. In the midst of all this confusion, Dirk realizes that Torrin MacLeod will soon show up to claim Isobel but Dirk will not allow him to take her because he has fallen fast and hard and he will not give Isobel to another man.
Great love story, a good background plot, interesting lesser characters - Rebbie always livens everything up with his joking, Aiden is a sweetheart who loves his music, there are some handsome cousins and we are introduced to the lovely Jessie MacLerie, Dirk's beautiful sister and chatelaine of the castle. When Torrin MacLeod show up, we can only begin to hope he will have his own book and guess what, he does!
