Editorial Reviews

Ashanti a Grammy Award Winning Singer/Songwriter, Actor and Author burst onto the music scene with her 2002 smash hit debut album self titled Ashanti. It landed the #1 spot on both the Billboard Top 200 \and R&B album charts, selling a whopping 504,593 units in its first week. Her first week showing set a Sound scan record as the most albums sold by any debut female artist in the chart s history, granting her a spot in the Guinness book of world records. With her song, Foolish , Ashanti also secured the #1 top spot on Six Billboard Charts simultaneously including Hot R&B/ Hip-Hop Airplay, The Billboard 200, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles and Tracks, Hot 100 Airplay, Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Hot 100! Foolish stayed on the billboard charts for 11 consecutive weeks. She made Billboard history by having her first three chart entries land in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 at the same time. She is the first female to accomplish this feat previously only attained by the Beatles. The first single to be released from the forthcoming album Brave Heart is the infectious new track The Woman You Love featuring Busta Rhymes and produced by Jerry Wonder.

Album Review | "Braveheart" - Ashanti | 3.5/5

It's been six years since Ashanti's last album and the singer has been hard at work crafting her latest release, "Braveheart." The project, which was 100% funded by Ashanti Douglas herself, was released on March 4, 2014. She also took on the role of CEO and produced the album as part of her own independent record label, Written Entertainment. According to Douglas, this era is about being brave and being more open with the public about her personal life. It's also about her indie record label (the Scotts) going up against the major record labels (the Brits) on the music charts and coming out on top, hence the title inspiration from the 1995 Mel Gibson film of the same name.

After a multiple listens, I've concluded this: Overall, the album is a solid effort but there hasn't been much growth in the six years that have gone by; at least not in many of the records chosen for this cd. For me, "Braveheart" is on par with her 2008 effort, "The Declaration." It's not bad. It's not great. It's just okay. The cd has a little bit of everything for everyone but because of this, it feels disjointed and incomplete. And once it starts to get good, it's over. There are, however, a few standout tracks:

"Braveheart" - Ashanti's voice soars with confidence and vigor on this L.T. Hutton produced opening track. This is a great mid-tempo power ballad that really shows that long gone are her days of simply cooing alongside rappers hardcore beats. She can handle tough beats on her own and this is definitely a smart way to open up the album.

"Count" - This is the most radio/club friendly track on the album. The song is in the same vein as Rihanna's "Birthday Cake" but better.

As much as I like the artist I have to give this 4 stars. Most songs have nice catchy beats. I listened to a few whole songs and listening to the lyrics, I can really understand what the songs are about. Its just too bad I had to wait 2 years for this album(I would say we but not to offend those who don't like Ashanti as I do). I think if she keeps at it it will only get better and better. Nice album artwork, smooth music, and not all that disrespectful. I think she draws from her own experience and not others like most other artists do. You go gurl!

Her best yet. She brings the lyrics, rapper like flow, vocals to a long awaited anticipated R&B album. This album does not disappoint. It tells her story from beginning to end. I'm addicted to Scars, Nowhere, Runaway, Never Should Have. Just the whole album. Very cohesive and does not disappoint the Listener. There are bonus tracks not available at Amazing that are just as noteworthy. RIP, Bonafied Survivor, Perfect So Far, Never to Far Away. I recommend this album. Lovely!!

I can say I almost gave it four because her last track is horrible I don't know what she was thinking with that. Overall it is a great album I love her voice and the beats are nice. This is way better than her last two it's nice to see that Ashanti is back at work and put out a great album like this.

This is a great album from start to finish. When you buy it from Target, there are 2 exclusive songs that end the album just right.
The beats/bass are poppin as usual, and Ashanti's sweet voice glides over the tracks like a leaf in the wind. It's very hard to pick favorite, but my least favorite are Scars and First Real Love. (IMO) Every other song is superb. I wish she didn't wait so long to put an album out tho. Also, I wish artists would let intro/outro have their on separate track instead of being apart of real song.

Ashanti really applied time and dedication to this album. I must admit her previous CD were not impressive to me. This one is in heavy rotation at home and in the car. I hope this album gets radio play. I really enjoy upbeat track count.

Ashanti is officially back. I'm a huge fan who had high expectations for this album. I'm incredibly impressed, my expectations were met. She released this album independently, no major label, yet the production was flawless. LOVE, welcome back Ashanti!
