I make bread often. For large loaves I use my Kitchenaid, but for a small loaf, or half-loaf, hand mixed in a bowl, this is just grand! I also find I reach for it before I go looking for my hand mixer. Yah...too much trouble to get out the small mixer and plug it in! This wisk is perfect for the new bread technique that calls for very wet dough. The best book for this technique is 200 Fast and Easy Artisan Breads: No-Knead, One Bowl. This is the easiest way to make terrific bread and the bread wisk is really fun to use!

I really don't have anything bad to say about the whisk so the reason I docked it 4 stars is because of the price! It just doesn't feel like it should be this expensive. It's a regular, rough wooden handle (not even polished and smooth) with the whisk part.

Having said that, I love the idea of the whisk. It's great for those "no-knead" breads. And it looks cool! It beats using a fork and it mixes faster than a regular spatula, which is what I would normally use.

I do have one nit-picky thing to say, though. Dough gets stuck in that area where the wire parts meet the wooden handle. It drives me crazy. I can't rinse it out with the sprayer and they don't come out with a good soak. It's such a tight, little area that it's just hard to clean. I'm ready to get out a toothpick to clean it. However, I'm not sure how it could be avoided or if it is even unavoidable. Maybe buy the bigger whisk?

So, overall, fun whisk, gets those thick, tough jobs done quicker and easy to mix those thick doughs. But, I think it's overpriced given it's unpolished texture and appearance.

My best friend's wife and I decided it would be fun (and it WAS!) to get together with her 13 year-old stepdaughter and make challah. I'd seen this dough whisk on Amazon and she ordered two, one for each of us. They arrived, we took them to the kelim, and then set out on our bread-baking odyssey.

I was eager to test drive this because even though I have an excellent stand mixer for smallish batches of bread dough, they don't and besides, there's something very satisfying and companionable about working dough by hand. And as it turned out, this little whisk really does do a nice job.

The (made-in-Poland) Danish dough whisk is a very modest piece of equipment; I was with my friend when she opened the package and we were both pretty surprised at how small and lightweight it (the package) was. The whisk itself is very no-frills--the wooden handle is smooth but not polished and the business end is a mere 3" x 2 ¾ ". But its wire (I'm pretty sure there's only one) is very strong and doesn't yield when confronted with thick dough and it really did do a fast, excellent job of pulling the ingredients together with not as much effort on our part as would've been necessary had we used something else. Our recipe yielded 4 loaves, so that should provide an idea of how much the smaller size can easily handle. We were both impressed.

Because of its wooden handle, the Danish Dough Whisk isn't a good candidate for the dishwasher. This isn't a big deal because dough rinses off pretty easily. I do think a bit of maintenance is necessary to keep the whisk in good shape, though, and this involves the handle. Make it a point to oil it once a month or so--or whenever it seems thirsty--to keep it from cracking.

This is from a total baking newbie, so take this with a grain of salt. When I first spotted this item, I thought it was more of a gimmick than a useful tool. Having just used it to prepare my sourdough starter, I am now a convert to this simple effective tool. It appears to be well made and the raw wooden handle is easy to grip; but I wonder how long the wire head will remain firmly attached to the wooden handle when repeatedly subjected to mixing heavy dough.

Edit: this is surprisingly useful in mixing bread dough and the large gauge wire makes all the difference in this whisk. Dough and other foodstuffs will find their way into the point of attachment to the wooden handle, so cleaning the junction immediately after use, possibly with a toothbrush, should minimize collection and growth of microbes.

My other dough whisk sat in the drawer for a year after I got it. I was making a pound cake one day and didn't want to get the mixer out so I decided to use it. I am so mad at myself for not using it sooner. I really love it. Used it for biscuits and again thought "wow". The pound cake recipe I use may not be like yours so experiment on you own technique. Bought one for a friend of mine. Thought it would be easier on her hands but she didn't have the wow affect I did. Sometimes that happens and sometimes people are stubborn.

When I first saw the picture of this Danish Dough Whisk - Small, I thought that it looked rather crude and amateurish, but this is actually a very well-thought-out kitchen utensil. It works very well for both stirring sourdough starter in your jar/crock, and for mixing flour and other ingredients into the dough when it is still in the bowl.

It is VERY well made and is not flimsy at all. I think it will last forever. Also, the handle is of a nice size and is thick so that you can get a good grip on it.

I bought the small whisk which fits into a Le Parfait jar easily for stirring my starter. I don't think that the large whisk would fit into this type of jar.

I also think that it looks pretty cool on my kitchen island with my other whisks. Kind of Old World looking. Quite a turn around from my first impression of it!

I am very happy with my purchase. 5 stars.
