I was so absorbed in Braxton that I can't even remember the heroine's name. Oh yeah, it's Beth (I had to look it up). Beth is Hannah's older sister and at the end of Choosing Henley, we discovered she was dating a major douche canoe. The douche has turned dangerous in this book, which results in her being rescued by the Cinderella Man. I liked Beth as much as you can like a girl who has something that you want. But that's about all that I have to say about her.
This book is one of insta-love... but I think that was necessary to work within the confines of the length because there was a plot conflict along with the romance, and that had to be developed and explored as well. I like that we got some suspense and bad guys in this book, it gave us something fresh and different from the earlier books in the series. I continue to love all of the secondary characters... but I am a sucker for that tattooed bad boy type so I would be right at home in this group of friends and family. (If I ever find out Anne based these guys on real people, I am moving to Canada.) 5 stars / 4 flames
Another great addition to the Rock Falls series! It was so easy to fall in love with Braxton & Beth!!
Yes, Braxton was over-the-top. He was a total alpha; I-control-your-orgasms, you-are-mine, no-man-touches-you kind of guy 24/7 and... I. Ate. It. Up. He was so damn sexy, whether he was in his suit or suited up to fight. I loved how he loved Beth from the get go & how he took care of her, never wanting to leave her side but doing it in a way that came across as romantic, instead of psychotic-stalker. He was a complete panty-melter. *le sigh*
Beth, the little spitfire, was awesome. I loved the attitude she slung at Braxton & the way she comforted him when things became too much for him. I hated that she had to go through that crap with Kyle but I was so relieved that Braxton helped her through it all. I'm so happy that she got to live her fairy tale!
I was jumping up & down when the bad guy got his just desserts & was stoked that Braxton was able to deliver a few punches to him before he got taken down! And the verrrryyyy end... PERFECTO! Ain't got nothing but mass amounts of love for Frank O'Leary!!
Very much looking forward to the next book in the series, Keeping King. Can't wait to see Peyton & Jayden burn up the sheets! :)
However, since I don't mind those, once I get my head in the zone, it was pretty good.
The reason I didn't give it too many stars is because one, it was too short for a story that would have been way better (even with our crazy Alpha) with some length. Also, I felt the h needed more time to heal. It was a little too unbelievable and some what off putting for the h to be totally okay with leaving one troubled, scary man to another. Especially one that warned and often showed his violent side. The h was just too comfortable with it.
Everything else was good, the smex, the way they met....again, with some more length it could have been great.
At one point, close to the end, I wanted to throw my kindle in fear that I might not get my happy ending and may or may not have threatened said author...lol.
In true Anne Jolin fashion, she was able to pull me through that tough time and gave me an ending I was extremely pleased with. This book could totally be read as a standalone but you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't go back and read Chasing Rhodes and Choosing Henley as well.
I look forward to more by this up and coming author! Her writing is poetic but not wordy...my favorite! You'll devour this book in one sitting. I really enjoyed the sassy yet strong heroine named Beth and the brooding yet lovable hero named Brax.
