UGH!!! The h in this story really ticks me off. When the book begins, I liked her. She was in a bar and from her inner dialogue I thought she was going to be a cool and strong chick - wrong! She is fickle and kind of dramatic about certain issues. I couldn't ever really get a feel for her.
The book begins with her boyfriend Cane and dangit, I liked him and they had some hot love scenes - then he cheats!! I cried and felt horrible for both Cane and Elle. Although Elle was already attracted to Reed who was a manwhore with a soft spot for Elle. Then there is the best friend Tyler. Good grief, heterosexual men and women cannot be best friends without some sexual tension or curiosity. Tyler of course is in love with Elle. Towards the end BEFORE she knows anything is amiss with new boyfriend Reed, she kisses Tyler. It is maddening. While Reed was out of state he almost had sex with his ex after promising Elle he would never do that to her like Cane had. His excuse was he was drunk.
The story abruptly ends with a cliffhanger. I purchased book 1 and 2 at the same time so now I am off to find out what happens because I am just a sucker that way.
This is not my typical read as I do not like love triangle and I don't like cheating and both were elements of this book. I can only give three stars because this book really needs an editor. There were typos and a lot of missing quotation marks. It got annoying after a while.
This is the first book of the series, and I must say it is a great start. I love that characters in the book and the descriptions of what is going on is very good. This book is very intense in some parts, the characters have very dominating characteristics and makes the book much more intense. I like how it goes back and forth in Elle's and Reed's POV. You get to feel how they are feeling all the way through the book. Now why I couldn't give it four stars is because sometimes it feels a little too lengthy, and says the same thing over and over again. Having three guys that are "totally in love with Elle" is a little extreme too. And the cheating, not full blown, but enough to be considered to be cheating is overboard. If you say your in love with one person, why would you be kissing your best friend the next, saying we can only be friends. Elle sometimes feels a little wishy washy for my tastes also, she is to be strong, and at times she really is, but then thats gone and well she struggles throughout the book. The book really started picking up half way through and I think that was the best part of it. So many secrets are there, and well I think this is going to cause most of the problems going into the next book. I like how the book was left and that you are ready to read the next book because you want to see what happens. Will Elle and Reed make it? Will Elle take Cane back? Or will Tyler finally get his happily ever after? Will Elle get what she wants? There is so much angst in this book, some great memories, tons of secrets, and love squares all the way through that it is definetly a great book to read. I can't wait to start the next book.
So now if your not a fan of cliffhangers I don't recommend you read this book..... and I'm not a fan of cliffhangers but going in I was clueless to know that it would end in one. Either way I'm glad I read it and I'm seriously so proud of this author, because it was her first book and it was pretty close to perfect! Can't wait to read more of her future stories! :)
