With Elon and Nate, the chemistry between them crackled almost immediately. All it took was one look between the Professor and his Little Wolf and it was all over. The fact that Elon had already revered the once great cellist that was Nate before a horrific and devastating incident changed the course of his life, only added to the heat that bound them mercifully. Their time together, whether in class or in Nate's office with Elon as his assistant, was never going to be easy and I enjoyed every uncomfortable and sexually tension-filled moment!
What makes this book stand out from so many others is that the characters are extremely well-written and have so much more to share than just their lust for one another. Nate with his demons and guilt over the loss of his fiance and his career, and Elon, who we met in book 1 of this series, never feeling as if she is deserving of an HEA after years of abuse at the hands of both her father and a despicable boyfriend. Two very broken souls who are each other's unexpected solace.
I think more than anything, I appreciated that the author wrote each character thoughtfully and accurately. Elon only being 21, she had the wisdom and grace of a much older person. However, there is still that playful side of her that Nate just couldn't resist and together with her honesty, she is a heroine I truly enjoyed getting to know. Nate, as the 'adult' so to speak in this relationship, had the proverbial devil and angel on each shoulder, always stuck in between his sense of right and duty and his unwavering affection for Elon. I loved that neither of them were true 'runners'. They faced the impending doom, relishing this wrong kind of love even though they knew it would have to end, the author showing that you don't have to necessarily separate a couple to have angst.
There are numerous very passionate, very erotic trysts between Nate and Elon that kept the heat turned up throughout this book. But underneath all the physical was a ton of heart. Their sexy times would ultimately end with tender moments and whispers of hope and eventually, great love. My heart broke for them more than once, at times not wanting to continue, not wanting this affair to ever end. I have to give a shout out to the great secondary characters, particularly Amber, Izzy, Bennett, Elise and even Nick. They were necessary whenever Nate or Elon needed a voice of reason and never took away from the crux of this story.
I can only conclude with saying that this is a must read. Any fan of the forbidden will want to consume this book just as I did. From the stunning cover to the most touching of epilogues, Breaking Gravity is a winner through and through.
Kudos to Autumn Grey for writing a true 5++ star read!!
"What are we doing?"
"Breaking gravity... We're breaking rules. When I'm with you, nothing else matters. Nothing can touch me or pull me down. Not even gravity."
This might be one of my favorite quotes/tie-in to a title/general concept EVER! I FLOVED this scene <3 I loved how much meaning it brought to the title (which I already loved) and how romantic it was. And it's just perfect for Nate and Elon! PERFECT I tell you!!
The characters and the writing were SPOT ON, which isn't surprising. I loved FBS and I'm beyond excited for the rest of this series and more AG books in general! The woman can write.
I'm one of those people who love to crush on the heroine as much as I do the heroes. But I find that I'm extra critical of the female characters. Getting me to love a hero is easy. Even when I don't necessarily like the things he does (*ahem* Vicious) and I couldn't personally see *myself* falling for him, if the author can show me how much he loves the heroine, and throws in some swoony lines, I'm sold. Book boyfriend for life. But the heroine is trickier, because I think, as a woman, I'm constantly imagining how I'd do things differently or if I'd even be friends with the girl. Now I'm not saying I dislike most of the heroines I read, not at all, but for me to truly love them it takes a lot of work and talent by the author. All that being said, I crushed on Elon. Hard. She's my favorite type of girl... a little shy--but still bold, awkward--but confident, sweet--but unafraid to be sassy, and a little flawed, but somehow still perfect in who she is and what she's about.
Now Nate... *fans myself* He was exactly the kind of alpha I like!! To be honest, it's pretty rare for me to like an alpha male, because he's always written in a way that makes him seem arrogant and like he doesn't really care about the heroines feelings/wants. But Nate was dominant without doing any of the stuff that annoys me. And the things he said... dear God, it was hot. I don't always talk about the sex when reviewing, but there is no talking about Nate without talking about sex. He was perfect and delicious. And his Little Wolf endearment? I loved it, it was sweet, sexy, and sensual all at once. And honestly that was how Nate was, because despite his dirty mouth, he was so flipping swoon-worthy!
He wasn't afraid of his feelings. There is some push-pull, which is expected in a forbidden romance, but I never got the feeling that he struggled with how he felt for Elon. And when it came time to tell his family, he didn't keep them a secret... I LOVED that, it's such a break from the typical student-teacher trope.
And oh man, there were a lot of funny parts. I honestly wasn't expecting to be laughing so much...
The only complaint I had was I wish they hadn't fallen (in lust) so quickly, given the forbidden nature I wish there had been more resistance. And there is one other thing but it's spoilery and a me issue anyway. But these were super tiny and if you love student-teacher tropes, you'll definitely want to check this out!!
Is book three done yet?!?!
