Jared Kushner was one of the most consequential presidential advisers in modern history. For the first time, he recounts what happened behind closed doors during the Trump presidency.

Few White House advisors have had such an expansive portfolio or constant access to the president. From his office next to Trump, senior adviser Jared Kushner operated quietly behind the scenes, preferring to leave the turf wars and television sparring to others.

Now, Kushner finally tells his story—a fast-paced and surprisingly candid account of how an earnest businessman with no political ambitions found himself pulled into a presidency that no one saw coming.

Breaking History takes readers inside debates in the Oval Office, double-crosses at the United Nations, tense meetings in Arab palaces, high-stakes negotiations, and the daily barrage of leaks, false allegations, investigations, and West Wing infighting.

A true historical thriller, this book is not your typical political memoir. Kushner details Washington’s intense resistance to change and reveals how he broke through the stalemates of the past. An outsider among outsiders, Kushner was a results-driven executive among beltway power brokers. He questioned old assumptions and delivered unprecedented results on trade, criminal justice reform, production of COVID-19 vaccines, and Middle East peace. His successful negotiation of the Abraham Accords, the most significant diplomatic breakthrough in 50 years, earned him a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Written by one of the few people by Trump’s side from his trip down the golden escalator to his final departure from Andrews Air Force Base, Breaking History provides the most honest, nuanced, and definitive understanding of a presidency that will be studied for generations.

I really, really enjoyed reading this book. Kushner gives his perspective of the headline events over 4 years of the Trump administration. The specific details of how the Abraham Accords came to be were the most enjoyable for me.

As an independent, I was not interested in taking sides, but Jared is truly brilliant. I heard him speak on a couple podcasts, and his book is filled with insight in the high-stake political realm. Really fast, easy read, lots of fun. Maybe a little too protective of his nutty father-in-law, but obviously he can't throw him under the bus. Very little partisan politics, mostly just quality wisdom. Highly recommend. Wishing Jared lots of continued success.

I followed the Trump administrations actions closely and found the MSM generally were awful at providing details about the many accomplishments, including those covered in Kushner’s book. The content of a book is of primary importance and the level of granular detail for so many delicate negotiations, historical influences on the author, and action packed situations did not disappoint. What elevates this book to one of the best overall in addition to the aforementioned, is the quality of the writing, the pacing of the action, and the very objective point of view by the author. It reads more like an action adventure novel, although lacking in physical derring do, rather than the dry, dusty, tomes which are sometimes blatantly self-serving efforts by those who plan on running for office or getting in on the think tank action.

Another point which becomes clear is Kushner is a natural diplomat. Those excellent in business often are, and to this reader, Kushner is at the top of the class in natural talent. Part of his diplomatic skills show in his generosity in giving credit where it is due. Be sure to read the acknowledgments: Kushner is very appreciative of the efforts of others, and includes some he didn’t mention by name in the body of the book. Additionally, he is extremely sensitive to the issues of potential partners to deals- an invaluable skill for those in sales and diplomacy, and his former private sector work surely aided his WH work.

One of the reasons this administration was reviled by the political class and MSM is the fact they did NOT stick to the same “consensus” of the “experts”, which, of course, has largely been ineffective and wasteful of personnel, material, and money, especially and with increasing frequency since at least the 1970’s. This aspect as comprehensively illustrated in the book, showed what COULD be accomplished in relatively quick order and generally very economically. There are a LOT of vested interests who prefer the old way, for obvious reasons.

It is truly remarkable what a rather small team of committed professionals were able to accomplish in four years, and that makes for an unforgivable sin to the administrative State. However, if the creativity, tenacity, and individual commitment were replicated, the American citizenry, would benefit greatly and save a whole lot of money, as a bonus.

I highly recommend this book to everyone and especially to any considering running for office, working in government, or even seeking to become an effective manager or C-suite executive. It is so superb, plan on purchasing additional copies for gifts,

*Note – I do not let political opinions affect my reviews. I review books based on the content, not the political affiliations of the authors. It is my opinion that more people should read books written by current or former government officials, even if you don’t agree with them, because it helps to better understand their perspectives, and get more insight into what is actually happening behind the scenes.

This book has 59 main chapters, with a total of about 465 pages. At the end of the book, after the Acknowledgements, Notes, and Index, there is a Photos section with 32 pictures. There are some pictures of Kushner with his family, and many of him with world leaders from different countries.

Kushner starts the book with a Preface that explains some of his motivations for writing this memoir, and what he hopes readers will get from it. Then in the first chapter, he recalls a pivotal moment in his life when his father was arrested in 2004, after a bitter family feud had resulted in unexpected betrayals. This was a dramatic way to start a book, as Kushner’s father was facing charges of transporting a prostitute across state lines after trying to set up his brother-in-law…

Throughout the early chapters of the book, Kushner covers some of the big influences in his life. He talks about his grandparents surviving the Holocaust, his experiences at Harvard, and his challenges as a real estate investor navigating the crash of 2008. He describes how he met Ivanka, when her father suggested she meet with him to discuss potential real estate deals. The conversations that he recalls seem very realistic, as you can almost hear Trump’s voice saying these things. These early chapters set the tone, as Kushner certainly has a knack for telling an entertaining story.

Kushner continues to recall his experiences as he describes the Trump campaign, conflicts with Chris Christie (who had prosected Kushner’s father), early days of the Trump administration, and his family’s decision to leave their New York lives and move to DC to officially work in the administration. He describes conflicts with Steve Bannon, and early struggles with trying to manage important negotiations and Trump’s tweets at the same time. As the book goes on, Kushner covers his experiences with Trump and world leaders, while also including parts that describe his family life and personal thoughts. There are many different publicized events that you get to see from a slightly different perspective, as Kushner recalls conversations and interactions that were never made public.

Overall, I found this book to be informative, but also at times surprising and fascinating. I really enjoyed reading this more than I thought that I would, and it has certainly given me a slightly different perspective about Kushner, and some of the other people he mentions in the book. Again, I must stress that you do not have to agree with all of his politics to appreciate this window into the behind-the-scenes interactions at the highest levels of government. There are valuable insights here, and I hope that people can overcome the modern political tribalism and try to absorb the information provided by such a rare glimpse into this world.

In a better American, one would expect someone like Kushner, who is young, bright, successful, tall, good looking (even has a full head of hair), and now very experienced, someone who has nothing to gain and everything to lose by serving his country, to be a wonderful choice for higher, elected political office. That won’t happen.

Watching what the un-elected, bureaucratic Deep State did, and continues to do, to his father-in-law and his family, why would he? Why would anyone, other than typical American politicians, who have no concept of service without substantial gain, without the avenue toward power, fame and wealth, which is not service at all, want to serve this country? I am weary of hearing politicians and bureaucrats brag about their “service to our country,’ while lying and feathering their own nests and those of their families at the expense of the American people.

“Breaking History” was very interesting, if only for its account of the back and forth that resulted in the Abraham Accords that was accomplished by ignoring advice from those who previously and repeatedly failed.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Essential Reading to Help One with Problem Solving in any Field
Reviewed in Canada on September 16, 2022
Jared Kushner's book is a must-read for those who want to solve problems ---problems in any field, be it in business, politics, health care --- and produce tangible products. Trump and Kushner were a problem-solving duo in the Whitehouse, the like of which the US had never seen before and may not do so in the future. No wonder then that in four short years, this duo outdid prior US administrations, despite the former being side-tracked by and occupied with unnecessary investigations and impeachments that led to no convictions, because there were no crimes to begin with. Kushner was the go-to-guy in the T admin. And justifiably so! He is a proven result oroducer. Through his unbiased account of his father's incarceration, he has develooed a trust with the readers that permeates onto other events he described in the book. It has been a while, since I read such an engrossing book that kept me awake at night longer than I should have.

Jared is Trump's son-in-law. Yes, he is a rich man and has a certain wealthy life and an elite social circle. From that perspective, he tells about the Trump Years in the White House. His narrative is of course based on his ideas and understanding; which is certainly different and unique, and distinct from the accepted positive and negative versions of the Trump presidency.

The answer appears to be NO. What a great read. " JARED ! GET IN HERE! " was the 24/7 rallying cry hollered out of the resolute office from his eternally embattled father in law.

I didnt expect to enjoy a political report on the Trump administration but here we are. I found this book read more like a thriller than a political snooze fest or factional political propaganda.

Told from a true insider with a brilliant mind, a riveting story to tell and a humble attitude. I think you'll enjoy it .
