Leah Whitfield is definitely an insane chick who I'm pretty sure doesn't know boundaries of society. In real life, I would probably drown her in Myles Bellamy's pool but thankfully this is book world so reading about her shenanigans is quite hilarious. Although I would probably do it just so I would have Myles Bellamy all to myself. Hot, moody, Neanderthal next door... YES PLEASE!
From the moment that two find themselves in the same pool (Leah trespassing to take a dip and Myles taking a skinny dip in his pool... in his NEW house) they develop an irresistible push and pull of attraction. As always things are not as easy as they should be. Someone is always watching their heart and delaying the inventible joining of two people who are CLEARLY (to us readers only of course) meant to be together. The perfect yin/yang situation, which is exactly how you can describe Leah and Myles. Where Myles is super serious and practical, Leah is a hilarious mess (in a good way).
Why a mess? I know it sounds like a bad thing but the reason why I say that is tied completely to the title of the book. I won't mention what it is but the story does go into more serious and in a way truly sad territory, which adds more characters and complexity to the story. So on top of it being well written with loads of burst out loud hilarious moment this book just gives enough to turn this Pinocchio-type of story into a Real life situation.
So take a chance on this book and on this author... if you have not done so you won't be sorry. Swear!
Leah is quirky, superstitious and feisty. This puts her at immediate odds with her new neighbor. Myles comes across as grouchy at the start but as he and Leah interact you begin to see the big heart underneath that crusty exterior. He’s caring, swoon-worthy and definitely sexy. These two clash right from the start and the witty banter that happens is top notch. Some of the best I’ve read. And while it’s a slow burn romance, there’s sexual tension throughout the book that you can practically feel seeping from the book. There are some eccentric secondary characters that make their appearances as well. A couple of whom I hope get their own stories.
As I mentioned, it’s not all fun and games—Gail tackles a couple of tough topics in these pages as well. These are handled gently and with class. The care that each of the main characters takes with the other’s issues gave me the warm fuzzies. And while they weren’t overly complex, there was some great development with them. This is a pretty low drama book with little angst. It’s definitely going on my re-read list for when I just need something to make me smile.
I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a sweet, sexy read that’s low on the drama, high on the humor and heart.
I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
And that is exactly what I got. I loved every word of this story. It was different from what I was expecting since I had this idea that Leah was going to be a new age, flake that would make me laugh but who I wouldn’t be able to relate to in any way. And Myles sounded kinda like he had a stick in his you know where so I expected there to be a lot of comedy when these two collided.
Myles had the perfect mix of growly, possessive alpha and sweet, sensitive caring guy to absolute perfection. I loved his brand of sarcasm and watching him fall for Leah and come to terms with her and her crazy friends. While Leah was just crazy, she was also so beautiful I couldn’t help but love her. There was so much sweet and funny in this story and I loved every second.
I did get quite a few giggles from both of these characters and I couldn’t put the book down. But what I didn’t expect was how much I genuinely liked them both and couldn’t wait to see how things were going to play out for them. The secondary characters were great and I really enjoyed the writing.
Now I am off to stalk Allie Gail and see if she has any more books for me to run off and one click.
The chemistry between Myles and Leah was off the charts hysterical! Leah is a quirky girl who thinks she is jinxed every year because bad things happen to her on her birthday. Yes...she is a little nuts, but you instantly fall in love with her and her kooky personality. Myles...well, he is a self confident male who moves in next door to Leah, and swears she's certifiably crazy.
Everything that happens to Leah is just too funny and there really isn't a dull moment in this book! I was in love with the internal dialogue and quick witted responses between the two. The sex is off the charts hot too!
I have to say, Ms. Gail...I had NO idea what a Salad Fingers stuffed doll was, and I was so curious I had to close the book and start searching on Google! OMG! So funny!! I have to admit...I've never seen the show, but now I really want one because it's so ugly it's adorable! Thanks for the laugh!
This is a HEA, no cliffhanger. I WILL be reading more of Allie Gail's books.
