Today, after reading this amazing book, I want step up to give her a standing ovation! Words are not enough to express the incredible inspiration one could get from reading “her amazing story” of being raised by a mentally ill mother!! Here was a child, smaller than average, with severe breathing problems, skin allergies and somehow surviving without any of the nurturing one normally expects to find from our mothers.
You wonder how a child survives when her mother does not know how to clean house and actually puts things away in different places all the time, including your own personal things you need for school and your daily survival. If you want to bathe yourself, first you have to empty the tub overflowing with stuff and there is no where to put it! How could she survive eating grass soup again and again, no kind words and loving embraces for all the challenging moments we experience in our childhood. What did her friends and neighbors think when her mother would sleep on the front lawn or go through their trash cans?
When you read this book, you will be amazed at the courage it took her the past few years, with the encouragement of friends, to attempt to remember all this trauma and write down all these painful memories. Why? Because it will inspire others to know they are Not alone! Someone understands their pain, their confusion, their feelings of living in a world of hell and being all alone!
Then at the end, you will find out How each situations inspired her to Break Through the Concrete of the experience and birth a new, inspiring part of herself! You will find, despite her childhood, she grew up to be an inspiring role model for all her friends! I just wish I could buy hundreds of copies of this book and give them away to friends to inspire them onward in their life and to never give up hope!
While she might lack the flair of a famous writer crafting their tales of fantasy across the page, Marifran shares in very simple words, a book of real life stories, I could barely put down! A couple years ago, I think, some doctors told her she needed this very dangerous and life threatening surgery if she was going to live. She declined and took another path, a more holistic approach. Two years later she is still alive, a thriving testament to never giving up! I have always been grateful to have her as a friend, now I am honored, beyond words, knowing what it took to get her to where she is today! A STANDING OVATION well earned Marifran!! You are more amazing than I had ever imagined! Thank you for sharing your life and inspiring so many others to creating their own amazing life!
After five minutes of scanning -- oh dear; too late. I could not put it down. I finished the entire book (one time through) yesterday afternoon/evening. It is more than interesting. It is an unbelievable story of heartbreak and triumph on so many levels and in so many ways.
Since MariFran and I are of approximately the same age I could totally identify with her very accurate report of the "ways" of our time. I marvel at the strength of the spirit; how one can not just survive but actually thrive throughout chaos and torture.
Knowing MariFran, today, one would never, ever, ever imagine the attitudes, scenes, and lifestyle conditions described. When I recently visited her home for a group gathering I was greatly impressed with, and comforted by, the lack of clutter and the absolute order of everything in the home. I strive, daily, to achieve that level of serenity in my own humble abode and was so grateful to see that it can truly be achieved. After reading Breaking Through Concrete I now fully understand how designing and developing that way of living and being could be such a major priority.
I admired MariFran before reading the book and now I just bow to the light she shines in this world with her presence of beingness and the offerings through her work and her interactions with others on an everyday basis.
Talk about a way show-er. Talk about spinning gold from straw (and much worse). Talk about walking one's talk!
From my perspective, MariFran Korb is the WOMAN. Without any doubt she is one magnificent Lady and an awesome Crone.
My personal Thank You, MariFran, for sharing yourself, your truth, your willingness to speak out about the very uncomfortable circumstances that we were all taught to hide, and your personal story through your book and for sharing your light, laughter and love with all of us daily.
