The timeline going back and forth from present day to past is written -and blended together so well That you don't realize you are going back and forth between centuries.
Ms. Moleti has a creative and genuine talent. One that you can see and feel as she takes pen to paper. Her characters jump to life right before your eyes The way in which in the scenes are written in such detail. Ms. Moleti describes everything in such the smallest detail right down the smallest shell in the water.
As our story opens our main character Liz has just lost her husband Gerry to cancer. She is so lost and feels that feels that her life has ended. She needs to start over in another house and town as they spoken about. Gerry and her had talked about buying a house in Cape. So she called about seeing some houses. The moment she saw the Barrett house she ha to have it. It was pulling it to her. There is something there drawing her here. Telling her this is the house for her. She belongs here.
Knowing that she is going to purchase this house. She goes back home to meet with her attorney. Already knowing what he is gong to say about her purchasing the home.An the fact it needs so needs so many repairs. She expects him to say no say. But it's too late Liz has already purchased the Barrett House. She informs Bill Jeffers - whom her husband had put in charge of the estate. That she had just purchased the house and need the funds available by the following day. He was furious with her. What he wanted her to do was to marry him not make a move to another city. Once he made a move on her she left the room and hired another attorney right away. Liz made sure that she was able to purchase Barrett House and move by the date she had already told them she would.
The Barrett House as Liz saw it was going to be turned into a beautiful B&B - and a museum. She would be living in the master suite while renting out the other bedrooms. During the restoration of the house - she found herself drawn to what is called the WIDOWS WALK. Liz is being pulled by the spirit of Edward Barrett. Her past husband. She finds herself reliving her past life in 1877 with Edward.
Now this story has lots of twist and turns . You never know which way you are going. In the past or present. Will Liz be able to handle her dead husbands? What about her son Jay? He thinks she has lost it - and needs someone else to handle the money. Mom took the control from Bill and he doesn't think that's right. Will Liz finally find happiness again? For all these answer and more YOU NEED TO READ THE BOOK!!
The story takes place in two eras, 19th century England & America, and in present day Massachusetts. In present day, you have a widow who decides to sell her home and buy a house to turn into a museum/b&b. Her son thinks she’s crazy. A lot of things happen that are really interesting. This is the ghostly part of this story and the twists and turns it makes will have you in suspense. I don’t want to give away any of the plot, so pardon my vagueness.
In the 19th century, we have a pirate-turned-ship-captain that falls in love with a lady. The lady, Elizabeth, has turned down suitor after suitor, much to her parents’ dismay. This was my favorite part of the tale. The couple is quite captivating. Elizabeth is a very well-written character. I found myself feeling everything through her, and spent a bit of time weeping over her circumstances. I could not put the book down. I was just in love with their story, their fate, and how it all related to the story in the present day. The story was meticulously crafted, and while I’m no historical expert, it seemed to stay true to the time period. The jumping in time back and forth was easy to follow and never was I confused which era I was reading about. If you like ghost stories, love stories, historical romance, this is a great read.
I received a copy of this story in exchange for an honest review. This in no way changes my opinion of the novel.
It is delightful to read about a woman who has a second chance at life, love and family. Fans will love the ghost stories. It's a very entertaining story.
