I often give it as a gift.
Get this one for a child. Get this one for yourself.
i am an extended nurser, and breastfeeding advocate, so it surprises me to say that i felt the book seemed to be pushing the agenda. almost verging on propaganda. i hate to say that because i'm all about breastfeeding being represented in children's books....this one just seemed to go way overboard, in my view. obviously i'm in the minority on this view (looking at the other reviews)...but my husband was the first one to point this out to me and the more i looked at the book (which i never really liked anyway, but hadn't really thought much about the agenda til he pointed it out), the more i had to agree. i really just don't like this book and it sits on our shelf unread. :(
what i would like to see, instead of books focusing entirely on breastfeeding (which has, in our sad bottle feeding culture, an extremely limited audience), but instead have books with a real story that have breastfeeding shown as a side thing, just part of a normal everyday life (just as bottlefeeding now is shown). this way more people will get to see the books like this. breastfeeding books like this book are only going to be read and purchased by breastfeeding advocates...which in our culture is such a small percentage of us...so this book is really preaching to the choir...Read more ›
They need to have a board book version of this book.
EDITED TO ADD: Fast forward to the future. We just ordered a second copy of this book for our younger daughter because the old copy was in rags from being read so many times. Imagine our delight and surprise when we found that it is a BOARD BOOK now! We were just plain thrilled, because that was the book's only shortcoming before. This is our favorite book, right up there with Goodnight Moon.
I highly recommend this book to moms and dads and their babies - and nursing toddlers!
My toddler loves this kid-sized book as it fits right into his little hands and he can easily carry it around with him. My older boy also enjoys looking at the pictures and remembering his nursing days. The other day I overheard him saying "milk makes my tummy yummy, but mommy's milk is better" as he poured himself a glass of cow's milk.
A gem of a book for all!!

We gave this book to my son for his first Yule last year (he was 3 months old). He enjoys it. My three year old adores it and we all read it at least once a week. Read morePublished on November 17, 2008 by Carrie Hankins

This small rhyming book is irresistable. Rhyming text paired with colorful illustrations show situations my sons are familiar with: tandem nursing and nursing in a bath. Read morePublished on December 17, 2007 by Denise Punger MD IBCLC
