The sex was spot on, the writing excellent, the storyline easy to follow and enjoy. There wasn't the repetition that I often see in books like this.
So, all-in-all it was a good book. I liked it and I'm looking forward to reading book two. Thank-you work colleague for recommending this book :)
The hero is sexy, of course good looking but kind, considerate and truly a good guy. No hidden agenda or pretending to be something he isn't. You'd want him even if he wasn't rich
The heroine is strong and independent for all that she is damaged from a childhood incident. Ms. Tate does a wonderful job of weaving the mystery in with the hot and steamy romance. I love the supporting characters and hope her best friend may one day get a story of her own.(hint)
Overall this is an excellent read and I highly recommend it!
I couldn't connect with the characters emotionally and for that I lost interest quickly in their story. Unfortunately, I couldn't care less about what happened to them. Not only that, but neither Allegra or Davison demonstrated any character growth throughout the book. They almost fell flat. I couldn't see what they found so irresistible about one another other than the exception of lust. Their relationship needed more depth in my opinion.
While Sylvia Day's Gideon Cross was panty-melting hot, I couldn't say the same for Davison. He came off almost creepy in the beginning. I never warmed up to his character honestly.
Sadly, I have no desire to continue reading the story of Allegra and Davison in books two and three. I'm calling it quits early.
So Allegra is an opera singer/student who is putting herself through school at a very upscale restaurant at the coat check. When it turns out the hot billionaire guy who is all over the tabloids is actually a silent owner, and is suddenly going to be around on a nightly basis, Allegra’s life really starts to change. I liked how Davison and Allegra’s started out, he’s clearly smitten with her, and there is clearly an electric connection between the two of them, but neither one of them just jumps into bed, there is a slow build up that happens over many nights where Davison drives her home.
Allegra clearly has something hidden in her past that is clearly haunting her, and as you read on through the book you get more and more of an idea about what that event from her past is. It’s clearly something that affects her, something that she thinks makes her undesirable, and on several occasions it causes her to pull away from the connection she has with Davison, because she doesn’t want him to find out about her past. I have to say that I really did enjoy when her past started to become a part of her present, although I thought that at the end it was wrapped up a little two quickly.
Davison I like a lot. For a lot of different reasons. He’s a very take charge kind of man, which I love. I liked that he stood up and said what he thought no matter who to.Read more ›
Davison comes from a wealthy upbringing, he's a successful business man, and he's expected to marry a woman he doesn't really like. He finds himself restless and looking for something more until one day when he goes searching for his lost driving glove and finds himself so much more.
Allegra and Davison's paths cross while she is working the coat check at a restaurant that he frequents. He comes on pretty strong and is very sure of himself, which all piques Allegra's interest and fuels her desire for him. The 2 of them are drawn to each other and begin seeing one another as they help each other get through some things in their lives.
As I read this book I found Davison to be a little too perfect. I kept waiting for something to happen that would take away from that image somewhat but it never came. It's Allegra who has the past that she fears getting out because of what it may bring. There was some mystery around her background but it felt like she seemed to make it a bigger deal than it was. It's a good read that kept my interest and had its steamy moments but I just kept feeling like there was more that I needed from it.
This is Sofia Tate's debut and it's the first book in a series, the 2nd is slated to come out in December and is called Devoted to Him. I'll be on the lookout for it to see how things build from here.
I received an Arc from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
