It actually took me almost 24 hours after reading this to be able to sit down and focus enough to write a review. I had never heard of Alice K. Wayne until I was lucky enough to catch her hour during a book release party. I was extra super lucky to win this e-book.

I know that when most of us see a paranormal book now we kind of roll our eyes but this book had such an interesting concept to me. What if werewolves and vampires weren't fighting? What if they didn't hate humans?
Alice did a great job of bringing some fresh air to the genre while at the same time keeping some of the most important staples: super strength, stamina (in and out of the bedroom *ahem*, super fast healing etc. And let's take a moment to talk about my personal favorite: mates. I simply love the concept of mates! Especially when its done in a none porno way. Like ok we get it your mates but lets not immediately start stripping. Everyone in this book has a chance to exercise their own free will. Even to the point of being annoying at times (I'm looking at you Nora!).

Cass and Tessa's story was beautiful. Tessa came out of her shell and it was beautiful! I loved how not only was Cass smoking hot but he truly loved Tessa. He didn't want her to change he wanted her to become the best HER she could be. Ahh the feeeeellllsss!!!

I don't wanna give away any spoilers but Quinn was by far one of the most interesting characters. I would even go as far as to qualify his story as a plot twist. I thought for sure we were heading in an obvious direction and then whoops....not so much! I'm really hoping we learn more about him in the next book....well him and someone special but again...don't wanna spoil anything!

Nora got on my nerves.

Overall Rating: 4.5 Rockin’ ★★★★☆

Stumbling across a new author is one of my favorite things and when the author writes paranormal romance it’s really exciting to explore that genre through a new perspective. In The Breed: Casstiel's Vow, Alice K. Wayne skillfully ignites the reader's imagination with a new outlook on vampires and werewolves co-existing with humans without their knowledge. Casstiel and Tessa find their connection amid kidnapping, a long existing war between hunters and the Breed and an uncertain future. This is their journey to happiness and an everlasting bond.

When Tessa's brother Quinn is kidnapped by a pack of werewolves, family life as she knows it changes and becomes a search and rescue existence. Using her gift to read minds she finds the Breeds and her family is bought under the protection of Sebastian, a vampire that has opened his home as a sanctuary for families that are affected by the war. Two years later Quinn is spotted and her parents load up and head to California. While they are away another citing of Quinn happens in New York and Tessa and her friend Nora make the journey from Boston to meet with the Breed defense team searching for her brother. Nora is a complex scared werewolf with a feisty spirit battling the past.

For the last 33 years Casstiel has been the leader of the defense team ran out of the New York City Embassy. His team consists of Ghost, Sebastian had contacted him awhile back about Quinn's kidnapping. Cass has been dreaming of his perfect mate. When his dream becomes reality he will stop at nothing to secure their bond even if she is a human. Tessa's gift always caused her to hideaway from people and entering the world of the Breeds she finally learns to accept and not hate it.

This is the first book in The Breed series and it just blew me away! Tessa is a young woman whose family has suffered a devastating loss. Her brother has been missing for a long time. Beaten, and carried off into the night. Due to Tessa's gift of reading human minds, her family was able to locate members of the Breed and take sanctuary with them, while they helped her family look for her missing brother, Quinn.

Castiel is a Vampire, a leader of his own group of men, who operate from the Breed Embassy in New York. I love, love, love how we are introduced to Castiel. :P

I love this couple together. They are just beautiful. Castiel is used to making the rules, as a leader of his men, he expects what he says to be done. Tessa is head-strong and willful, but the thing about her is, you completely understand her point of view because she makes sense. How she thinks and feels are so relatable, that you can easily imagine yourself thinking the same things. Her insecurities could have been my own. Castiel just adored her. Their conversations were interesting and their intimacy was HOTTT! I have to say, I highlighted a lot of things Castiel told Tessa because it was just so sweet and romantic. Don't be fooled. He's got a hands and a mouth that would tempt a saint. He was overprotective, a true alpha male, without being too domineering (except in the case of her safety). He listens to what she has to say, and tries not to hold her back (except in the case of her safety).

**I am just inserting this for readers who have read/plan to read this. There's a scene. It involves a refrigerator. Tessa is just so darn cute and refreshing!**

This book had my heart racing several times. There's a lot of action and some suspense.
