The society in which Dak and Omra live in is patriarchal to the extreme. Men are superior in every way and women serve no purpose other than domestic work and being breeders for Alphas. The odds are almost against a romance forming between a man and a woman in a place like this, but oh do we see it here.
I enjoyed the tension, sexual and in relation to Dak and his attempts to evolve and hold on to his command. I loved that Omra was tenacious also from beginning to end. I can't say Sci Fi is necessarily a genre I seek out, but I've been known to enjoy books of this nature a good deal so this one met my expectations in that regard. It was great to immerse myself in this world/society.
Really loved this read and would almost like to read another character's story based in this world. This book lived up to the hype.
The pace was good and the development of the story worked in as it went instead of an info dump. I liked how the author switched back and forth between Dak, The Alpha and a male dominant at the top of the food chain and Omra, his recently purchased breeder female barely worth as much as his domesticated transportation beasts. It gave good perspective from both view points and showed when Dak's views began to change even as Omra's true self-emerged under his care of and for her.
There is also a few times when the antagonists' perspectives are given.
I found this book insightful for it points out how one society can subjugate another by way of gender, color, religion, or just plain arrogance of entitlement.
This book also shows how one person in the right frame of mind or just at the right time can change not only their life but those around them as well and over all the society around them but it come with a cost of your friends, reputation and or statuses.
Yes this book is all about males heavy handedness and overall shortsighted attitudes about woman and their fear of them. Sounds like a lot of societies today that we ignore as not our problem. This is my question if not you then who stands up for them an then who will stand up for you when you need some ones help, just saying.
