The Breville is very nicely made and feels appropriately high-end. Everything from the power cord, to the buttons, to the multitude of beaters are well made and nicely finished. The mixer is fairly compact and had a large and easy to grip handle. It also balances nicely in the hand. Included with the Breville are balloon whisks, rubber coated beaters, and dough hooks. A really nice touch is the included caddy that holds the attachments and snaps to the bottom of the mixer for storage.
Using the Breville is simple. There are three buttons on top; power, pause, and a wheel for controlling speed. There are 9 speeds in total. The slowest speed is very gentle and easy, while the highest speeds get very powerful and brisk. I've been using this Breville at least once a week to make waffle and pancake batter and it works well at mixing the batters, whipping up egg whites, and blending dry ingredients. The beaters all insert and remove smoothly. The large circular handle to eject the beaters is a great touch, as is the built-in LED work light so you can clearly see your ingredients. Two other really nice touches are the built-in timer that shows how long you have been mixing, and the fact that the fan is on the base of the mixer, instead of up front, so it won't suck in flour or other ingredients. The Breville is also very quiet in use and doesn't make much of a ruckus. The rubber coated beaters are a really nice feature eliminating the usual clanging that you hear when the beaters hit the edge of a bowl.
I've washed the beaters multiple times in the top rack of my dishwasher and they always come out perfectly.
All in all... it won't replace a stand mixer for really big jobs, but for everything else it's my go to mixer.
(4/17/17 Update: I still use this Breville mixer almost weekly and it is still working perfectly. I've even used it to mix cookie dough and mashed potatoes and it worked great. Lots of power when needed.)
I was afraid the mixer would be heavy but I didn't notice it being heavy and I'm 61 with some arm weakness.
I was also worried about the beaters with the rubber on them. They looked cumbersome to use so I was at first reluctant to purchase this mixer because of that but seeing them in person, I can see that they won't interfere with mixing at all, as they fit like a glove and they glide easily along the surface of the bowl just like any other beater.
I researched the 3 main companies and Breville has the highest wattage off all the mixers, versus Cuisinart and Kitchen Aid. I just returned the newest 9-speed Kitchen Aid mixer because the buttons were hard to push and I was ecstatic when I saw that Breville had a thumb wheel that was simple and easy to use.
This mixer is really beautiful and looks better than the website image. I was impressed upon opening the box. The beaters and attachments are nice also, and you can tell they are well made. I'm very happy with it so far.
