With this Breville appliance, you simply turn it on and let it warm up- something that takes about a minute or two. Then, you open it and place your sandwiches- one or two- on the inside and close. In about 2 or 3 minutes, your sandwiches are ready to eat. You can even use this for open face sandwiches by changing the setting, which lifts the upper plate so that it no longer touches the top of your sandwiches.
Judging this small appliance for performance, it earns high marks. For one, the sandwich is browned more evenly. We used to use our George Foreman grill to make sandwiches like this, but the browning wasn’t even and the sandwich emerged with an unattractive ripple design. I can’t really fault my GF for this problem, since it wasn’t really made for the task at hand. Breville Perfect Press is made for sandwiches and it prepares them well. Even browning of your bread also means the cheese is melted more evenly and the heat is distributed the way it should be.
Cleaning the plates in this press is a simple job. They are made with a non- stick surface and that makes them extremely easy to wipe clean. Probably the only thing I see being an issue is with the possible flatness of a sandwich. I have prepared some sandwiches in this machine that came out a little flatter than some family members preferred. The food still tasted fine, it just didn’t look as presentable. This is a minor point, I know, but it is still something to think about before you plop just any old sandwich between the plates.
We love sandwiches in our house and we now use this in place of other appliances. In fact, we use it more than I thought we would- enough that we no longer store it away. It now occupies a permanent place on our counter and there is a good chance it will be used again by the time I finish writing this review. A big thanks to Breville for making yet another useful appliance!
On the other hand, the panini press is a sleek, attractive small appliance. It's very simple to use and serves up a panini sandwich within about three minutes. There is no messy clean up. In addition, after retiring the George Foreman grill, which took up precious counter space, this panini press is easy to store in the cabinet vertically, and I have my counter space again. Plus, the panini press is lightweight and easy to transport.
The panini press also does a good job with sandwiches, as you can see for yourself from the attached photos. I've even brought some of the panini sandwiches to work to give myself a little lunch variety during the week, but they tend to be overly dry. For the money, if you're into paninis, I'd recommend the Breville Panini Press.
Well, what a yummy decision! Instead of numerous steps, this kicks it down to just preparing the sandwich and placing it on the panini plate. It comes out flawlessly, and with so much less fuss and mess. And I can make two simultaneously. I then tried an open-faced corned beef and sauerkraut, with perfect results, as the crush control setting keeps the top from slamming down on the sandwich while still cooking it evenly.
I wish that this little instruction booklet came with recipes, but you can use your imagination as far is it will take you. I've made BLTs on Texas toast, keeping it high and crunchy, and a veggie delight on a soft tortilla. This Breville is unstoppable. You can make sandwiches in no time with barely any clean-up needed. You just wipe the plate with a damp cloth or paper towel. You can store it vertically, so that it is also a space-saver. It would also make a great gift.
