Surely the people making these are aware some horses are more stable?
Make it standing square so it doesn't tip over while its wet?
Or at least not quite so wobbly.
My son (7) loves this but it tips over.
I thought it was him, so I tried standing it up and knocked the darn thing over 3 times.
In the end we got it, only one sheet of perfectly flat newspaper under it or it tips.
The idea is fantastic and he loves it though.
Only other thing is I thought it would be classic size, to go with his "collection"
But it's small. Kinda between classic and schliech sized.
Great idea and worth it but the tipping is annoying.
I was hesitant after reading several comments on multiple different horse painting kits. There were some pretty bad things saying they were tiny, they did not get the paint or it was dry and unusable, or that the horse came with a broken piece or something missing. It was not an easy choice but eventually I decided to go with one of the larger horses and one that had a full array of paint colors not just two or three.
Apprehensive when the box arrived I opened it and unwrapped the horse to make sure it was all there and not broken and to my surprise it was in perfect condition, huge and everything was there so well packed that it took me five minutes to get into see if it was all there. (That was a good thing, thus why it made shipping without breaking) When it first arrived my own daughters said that they wanted one too for their birthdays as well they liked it so much.
It came VERY well packed, all in one piece nothing broken and it arrived quickly on time the day before the party. It was a big success, it seems it had been her favorite present she opened that day, she even squealed when she opened and saw what it was. So now I plan to get one each for my daughters to paint their own when their own birthdays roll around because they are not terribly high priced at all. About what you would pay for just about any toy/item for a teenager. Plus I think it would be a great way to let my girls express themselves artistically.
Great Buy 5 stars!
Overall we are please with this purchase the only negative thoughts I will add are, the horse itself is much smaller than I originally had expected. Totally my fault for not reading description well.
Also you are limited to the number of paints to use and if you have a more creative none T rational artist for a child I suggest you buy additional paint sets from a craft store.
I don't use the acrylic paints offered and I'm not surprised of the inferior quality that they may produce or what customers have comeplained about.
The model horses is an inexpensive canvas to first learners in painting horses though.
This kit is not limited to children but certainly for any learning artist wanting to become pro from the start! A good and inexpensive way to learn to paint sculptured horses; from plastic to resin quality models.
I think its a smart idea to buy your own paints then rely on the one within the kit.
For me I'm using a different form of medium and that's chalk pastels.
They convey the most natural, high quality input a to painting for those whom are serious to painting. Of course you have to buy other supplies with it and a fixative to use on the model horses is VERY important.
I enjoy this kit and can be used for many purposes other then what this kit offers so don't feel the need to be kept sheltered within the kit.
Your an artist act on it and be savvy.
My only complaint is the glue they give you to attach the mane and tail its not at all the quality you come to expect from Breyer. We ended up using rubber cement to attach the mane and tail. Other then that we are happy with the results.
