The roof does not have anything to latch onto, so we have deemed it a removable roof. I don't think this was a product feature as there is no reference or pictures to this effect. But it isn't easy enough for my child to put back on so we might super glue it.
The floor is hollow under neath, making it dip in the middle. But this causes the stall doors to not shut properly and only the horses with 4 feet on the ground will stand on this.
*** Update I googled Breyer and got an email address and emailed them about what happened to the horse. They responded back the next day saying a replacement horse will be sent out today and should arrive next Thursday! So AMAZING!!!! So If you do have an issue they WILL make it right! I will be buying more again!
I gave it three stars because my girls don’t really like playing with it very much. They say it’s too dark inside. I think because the roof is so low and then angles down they have a hard time seeing inside unless they duck down close to the ground. They really like playing with stables and barns since they are constantly playing with the one at church so I know it’s a design issue as to why they don’t like it. My girls are 3 and 4.5 years old.
Also, the dark brown horse doesn’t stand up in its own when in a flat surface. The light brown horse does though.
So, this is 1:32 scaled. Look for other animal and farm toys of the same scale. They're out there. Ertl or something like that makes same scale animals and they're less expensive.
The reason to keep 1:32 scale is that all the animals fit and work with these barns and animal hospital toys. There are no giant horses that won't fit in the stable. Similarly there are no micro animals. The 1:32 scale seems to be the right size to fit her hands and be large enough to play with for my 4 year old.
While the Bryer Stablemate animals are more detailed and don't have that plastic molding line down the middle of the animal, the Ertl animals were just fine for a toddler who could care less and also looked like a real animal.
Also, if you decide to use glue, don't glue the roof pieces. Your child will need to take the roof off to play with the toy.
The only reason my kids are still interested in playing with it is because they love horses so much. They're constantly asking me why it keeps breaking. I guess I'll glue the pieces in place. They'll probably snap off where I glue them but it's worth a shot.
Totally disappointed and irritated at this Breyer product.
