Blindsided by her dearest friends' obvious plan and her "husband to be" Caleb who had advertised for a mail order bride, Lacey had insisted on traveling from Ireland to the west to see who was described as"a man who might need a bride too" in the letter she had read addressed to her friend Kate.
Lacey wanted what Kate had; a new life with a husband. Kate wasn't so sure it was a good idea but Lacey didn't give her much of a choice.
Lacey had her secrets and they were a good reason to leave Ireland far behind. Kate however, had bigger secrets and they involved a clueless Lacey.
Upon arrival, they were met by a man with darker skin and long black hair. The women knew he was different but didn't have a clue how different. How could they? There were not any Indians in Ireland but Lacey was intrigued.
Caleb admitted he had added that small addition to the letters Hawke had helped him write and Hawke was stunned and furious. He knew that most people called him a "half breed" and white women were definitely not an option.
Hawke was satisfied with his life and didn't want or need this problem in his life.
GUESS WHAT! Life gives you apples and lemons. He concedes to give her 2 weeks and see how things work out. Caleb, his best friend insists he try. He feels obligated and cornered but he hasn't changed his mind.
All he wants is to build his growing ranch and work on training his horses. Hawke has a natural talent which he refers to as "gentling".
Does that work on women too?
