Simply put this is the best album Michael has done in many years, his playing is on fire and with Herman and Francis adding a solid bottom to the tunes. Also Doogie White's vocals are brilliant, i've been a fan of his for many years, he's sang with Blackmore and Malmsteen so you know he has the pipes. I think his singing style ups Michael's game tremendously .

The album has a kinda of Iron Maiden vibe and some tunes sound medieval which also fits Michael's style. Buy this album now, you won't be disappointed.

UPON FIRST LISTENING, THE RECORD (ALBUM / CD / WHATEVER) SOUNDED GOOD, BUT THE ONLY SONG
THAT REALLY STRUCK ME AS EXCELLENT AND CATCHY WAS THE BONUS TRACK WITH DON DOKKEN AS VOCALIST.

A FEW DAYS LATER I RETURNED TO THIS ALBUM AND LISTENED TO IT A SECOND TIME. MAYBE I WAS IN A DIFFERENT MOOD OR STATE OF MIND, BUT I REALLY ENJOYED IT ALL. THE SECOND TRACK - WHERE THE WILD WIND BLOWS IS THE STAND OUT TRACK TO ME NOW, CLOSELY FOLLOWED BY TRACK 4 - LORD OF THE LOST AND LONELY, TRACK 6 - TO LIVE FOR THE KING, TRACK 9 - SHINE ON, AND TRACK 13 - DANCE FOR THE PIPER.

THE ENTIRE RECORD IS SOLID. WELL PLAYED, WELL WRITTEN, AND WELL PACED.
THE ONLY SONG I LIKE A LITTLE LESS IS TRACK 5 - ROCK N ROLL SYMPHONY. THE REASON IS WEAKER LYRICS.
NONE OF THE OTHER SONGS HAVE LYRIC PROBLEMS, JUST THIS ONE.

I HAVE LISTENED TO THIS RECORD FOR HOURS UPON HOURS AND THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING INTERESTING AND ENTERTAINING ON IT. PERHAPS IT TOOK A FEW LISTENS TO GET USED TO IT, BUT IT GREW ON ME AND I SEE MYSELF CONTINUING TO PUT IT IN ROTATION WITH OTHER SCHENKER AND UFO RECORDINGS THAT I LISTEN TO IN FREE TIME OR AT WORK.

I MUST SAY THAT SCHENKER HAS FAIRLY GOOD MUSICAL JUDGEMENT, BUT HE HAS ALWAYS BENEFITTED FROM WORKING MORE COLLABORATIVELY WITH OTHERS SUCH AS BARDEN AND PHIL MOGG AND WHEN OTHERS HAD A HAND IN COMPOSING THE MUSIC OR LYRICS. IF I COULD TELL HIM ANYTHING DIRECTLY, I WOULD SAY 1) GOOD JOB ON THIS RECORD 2) WRITE MORE MUSIC WITH OTHERS ON THE MUSIC AND LYRICS. HERMAN RAREBELL PLAYED THE DRUMS WELL, BUT HE COULD HAVE CONTRIBUTED ON THE MUSIC AND LYRICS AS HE DID WITH THE SCORPIONS AND SO COULD PETE WAY OR FOR THAT MATTER GARY BARDEN (JUST BECAUSE HIS VOICE IS GONE DOESN'T MEAN HE CAN'T CONTINUE IN A ROLE AS SONGWRITER.

This is yet another magnificent, exhilarating, vivifying, adrenalizing, jubilant, and energizing offering from Michael Schenker. Bridge the Gap (BG) is an understatement - you could span continents and oceans with this album.

Over the years, in my opinion, Michael has proved himself to be rock's greatest ever guitarist, having: the best musical compositions; the greatest stylistic versatility; the largest and most consistently outstanding portfolio; the most originality; the most beautiful style; the most sophisticated melodic architecture; the best use of structural progressions; the most blistering solos; more riff ideas than anybody else - the list goes on. In my opinion, name any objective musical criterion (as opposed to subjective taste), and Michael Schenker towers over the competition (with the possible exception of Hendrix - though, in my view, Schenker ultimately surpasses even him).

That Schenker is not more popular than he is is surely a sad testament to the dark powers of market-engineered and socially constructed consumer-conditioning, to the pre-critical passive submission of media-targeted demographic groups to herd-mentality and to the unthinking "chav-culture" adoption of behaviourally-mimicked and non-interrogated received habits of speech about this or that artist's achievements or failings. Michael may have had the odd "dark year" in terms of live performances, but these pale into insignificance next to the thousands of great live gigs he has under his belt, and next to his amazing studio-output, which is about two or three times the size of that of the next most-consistent rock acts.

And the standards remain high in this album. I thought Temple of Rock (TR) was superb, but if anything I think BG is even more consistent.

Just like a fine wine, Michael gets better with age! Doogie White nails it on every song, and having seasoned veterans like Herman Rarebell and Francis Bucholz only makes it that much better.
This is definitely some of Michael's finest works, I think it's time the rest of the world discovers the vast talent this gentleman possesses!
Bravo Mr. Schenker!

This is a real good melodic rocker. Michael is in top form. His solos and rythyms are in perfect sync. Doogie White's vocals fit perfectly for all of the songs. I cant stop listening to this album. If you are a fan of Schenker or good hard rock/metal then you ought to really enjoy this album

I had no idea what to expect with this new album. We'd all like another Assault Attack or Lights Out - but if Michael made one, we'd all complain about the lack of originality. Past cd's have varied greatly from In The Midst of Beauty to Temple of Rock. So this time we get Bridge the Gap. Overall, its solid from start to finish. I love the short instrumental intro of Neptune Rising, and songs like Lord of the Lost and Lonely, Bridges We Have Burned, and the atomic Horizons, prove Michael Schenker still has both power and feel in his guitar playing. I agree with all the previous reviews. It did in fact remind me of Maiden the first time I listened, and to be honest, it took more than a few rotations in the cd player to pick up the vibe and get into the grooves. Some of the songs sounded too much alike, but then I realized it was because of the drumming style of Herman Rarebell. Do I dare say that Michael's fills could have been turned up a bit in the mix. I agree with the review that the mix loses some of the distinction between Wayne Findlay's rhythm guitar and Francis Buchholz's bass. But those criticisms are overshadowed by the overall greatness of this cd. There is plenty to like, including the sweeping choruses of Shine On and To Live For The King.
Awesome solos and pretty good vocals ring true on Bridge The Gap. Doogie White has won me over. As a side note, I have the Japan import, which includes Rollin' sung by Michael Voss. I know Schenker's website has it listed being song by Don Dokken. The only thing I could find by him was the song Faith - a vocal track sung over the song Positve Forward. That's all I know...I look forward to reading what other Schenker fans think.
