I've never been on a snowboard, nor have I ever learned to ski, but Jill Barnett, author of Bridge to Happiness, had me believing that I could get on the snow and understand what it was all about. But this book isn't about the snow, but rather the dynamics of family life. Mike loves March, and March loves Mike. They marry and start a family. But March knows Mike will never truly be happy working for his dad and encourages him to quit his day job, and start his own business. Mike does, and it becomes a very lucrative endeavor.

They love, they laugh, and they raise a family of wonderful children. March is lucky to be surrounded by such a loving family and friends when the worst thing imaginable happens. The journey that they all take during this time is gut wrenching at times, but ultimately, they all see that their love for one another is the nucleus that holds them together.

Jill Barnett has written a story that will make you laugh, and it definately made me cry. But those are the stories that remain with you. This is a story that I can pick up a year or more from now, and I will want to read again and again. I think you will too.

Jill Barnett has such a talent for character and emotion. And for life's "moments" that change everything. This is a big story with wonderful, relatable characters that you'd expect in a Barnett book, and that's all good. I'm such a sucker for stories of how we find the guts to change.

I think this book would have been much better if she had left out the first 1/4 of the book. Reading it felt like I was watching a movie in fast forward. She took way too much time to describe 30 years of a perfect marriage and becoming rich. Then suddenly she throws in a group of supposedly best friends from high school who don't appear until weeks after tragedy strikes. These people show up just to get her drunk throughout the book. This happens with other characters as well, even one of her children, they show up and become a big part of the story but then suddenly disappear and you never hear their voices again (her youngest son, a sports reporter Spider...does Spider have a real name???)

In the description of the story you know that eventually March ends up alone so you just keep waiting for something to happen. Only after the main character starts to work through her grief do I get invested in the character. This is where the book should have started, with her dealing with the aftermath of the accident. That's when I saw some writing from the heart and could actually feel something for the character.

Some better editing would have helped, also. She sometimes switches to 3rd person from 1st and there were a few sentences that I caught with grammatical errors.

Jill Barnett creates a beautiful love story taking her readers on a journey of those
defining moments in life that threaten to destroy all that you have.
When faced with tragedy, March is forced to redefine her identity and all of her
relationships. In spite of all the emotional upheaval, she never loses her wonderful sense of wit and humor.
Beautifully written, I highly recommend this book. A great read and a refreshing love story.

I was iffy on reading this book. It was free for the Kindle, so I decided to give it a try. I was surprised. I had to know what happened next. I fell in love with the relationship of March and Mike and how they made marriage seem so easy.
I would have liked more detail about the beginning of the relationship, when they first met. It comes out later in the book, but it seemed like more of an afterthough. The ending was great.
I liked going through the emotions of March as she went through the stages of grief. It helped heal a place in me.

Okay, I have to admit that I enjoyed this book. The story was good, and I wanted to find out what happened next.

HOWEVER, this book was so full of typos and grammatical errors that it drove me nuts! For the life of me I cannot understand why an author would go to the trouble of writing an entire book and put it out there for the public without proofreading it. I think it shows an immense disrespect for the reading audience, and it certainly diminishes enjoyment of the book. Every time I came across yet another error that should have been caught in proofreading, it stopped me cold and irritated me, kind of like sticking a broomstick through the spokes of your bicyle tires. Ms. Barnett, you could be the best author in the world, but I will never read another one of your books because of your lack of care for your readers. No, the story isn't everything. And yes, just like in high school, grammar and spelling count. You've lost a potential fan here.

I'm quite surprised at the number of 5-star reviews for Bridge to Happiness. It is a decent book, but definitely not worthy of five stars. The development of the characters did not reach its potential. I thought the story was self-indulgent in a lot of ways and found myself constantly wishing the author would show rather than tell the story and its details.

The numerous errors throughout the book were extremely distracting.
