It's the author's first effort. He recounts his early teens, and the impact that a man he'd met in Florida had on his life.
The title refers to a bridge which he and his mentor built one summer; it's still standing more than 50 years later.
How he got to the point of building the bridge includes a great number of character-building steps along the way. His mentor took him out of an unhealthy home life and helped him start to grow into the very successful man he is today.
The writing isn't much like most of the authors you likely will have read before, in that writing's not his profession. Indeed, he was somewhat "pushed" into setting down his amazing experiences, ones we'd heard about in our times together. None the less, his story shines through.
If you're a man who had anything other than a "perfect" childhood, this will resonate. If you're a man who had the good fortune to have a wide-open-spaces, neighbors-look-after-each-other childhood, you'll be nodding your head all the way through. If you're a woman, your heart will be in your throat as this boy encounters and overcomes obstacles, as well as grows and matures, throughout the story.
Look for his next work, a mystery set in South Beach Miami, sometime in the next couple of years!
I HAVE A NEW PERSPECTIVE OF MY FRIEND MICHAEL PAUL.......
Some moments made me feel energized and other moments made me feel sad. Especially in the beginning with the bus ride and learning of Michael Paul's family history. But thank God for the entrance of Frank! Thank God for the man Michael Paul has become!
Michael Paul is a vivid storyteller. He makes you feel as if you are observing and a part of each event... right next to or somewhere near each character! You will feel a connection to both Frank and Michael. You go to bed and wake up in the middle of the night, pick up the book, locate where you left and anxiously begin to read because you want to know what is going to happen next.
Great read, Michael Paul. Kudos! I'm anxiously awaiting the next book!
