I compared this in person to a Victorinox Paratrooper, which made for a close decision. Both are pretty much the maximum allowable carry-on size ~ 14x22x9 (the Tumi is listed as only 4.5 inches thick.)

The Victorinox had slightly more depth in the main compartment when unfolded, the difference being due to the larger zipped front compartment on the B&R. This might make getting a second suit in there easier, but people have reported getting two in the B&R.

The Victorinox has a built-in tie wallet, which was pretty nice. It also has two shoe-sized pockets in the middle. But overall I didn't like it enough.

The B&R has more durable materials and construction (especially the hangar lock), huge "self-healing" zippers, a more comfortable shoulder strap, and generally seemed like it would last longer. There is a smaller secondary pocket on the front, which has been surprisingly useful for things like checkpoints. For hanging the bag unfolded, it comes with two different rubberized metal hooks. I have no idea why the larger one would be needed, but it's nice to have.

Probably the best part is that the bag fits precisely in almost every overhead container I've tried, including small regional jets (economy, but would also fit on the right side overheads in 1st class). The corner space left by the front pocket will nicely clear hinges.

    Some miscellaneous points:
-I still haven't figured out where to put shoes. Other people have described packing them in the bag, and there are at least 2-3 potential places, but I'm not sure which one is best.
-If you prefer to use the thicker, taller type of suit hangar, you might find that it can make folding more difficult if using the hangar lock/Wally hook.

I'm a travelling minister and I need a bag that I can basically live in, but that isn't too big and annoying. This bag is exactly what I was looking for. It's made of what seems to be very tough material so it will last long. It can hold up to two maybe three suits comfortably. It isn't very heavy! Some of those Tumi carry-everything-in-existence bags are nice, but they just about break your back to carry around. This bag is a comfortable weight. Has plenty of pockets and spaces for things, even for an extra pair of shoes if you have them. I have no complaints at all about this bag! If this is the kind of bag you're looking for, I recommend this one over any of the other brands and kinds that I've looked at. This bag is not too big either! Some tri-folds, when you start shoving things in the pockets, end up folding very ugly and don't really fold very well. This one does. What the picture doesn't show you is that inside the outer big pocket there is a very nice bag for holding a tooth brush and shavers and stuff, plus room for a laptop and power cords. It has room for dirty clothes. Ingeniously conceived.

Tumi is nice, but their Presidio thing is just too small for me, not enough pockets, doesn't make use of the space above the shoulders of your shirts. Victorinox and other brands that I've checked out don't seem to have as ideal a bag as this one was for me. Plus it said 6 days to get to me and I think it got here in 4, with just normal shipping.

I purchased this suitcase to replace a similar Tumi bag that I gave to my son. The bag is tremendous for a 1-3 day trip. It packs a suit/blazer, shirts and slacks very easily and the velcro closure works well to minimize wrinkles. The interior pockets are perfectly sized and positioned (corner pockets are great for grooming items) and the wet clothes pocket at the bottom of the hanging section is just right for a set of gym clothes that don't have time to dry. The pockets on the inside of the zippered closure work well for underwear, socks, shirts (long deep pocket works well with a packing crate), etc. An extra pair of shoes or sneakers fit in the bottom of the hanging section and there is even a place for a tie. The outside pockets are nicely arranged as well, including a wet pack for toiletries which makes them easy to grab when going through security. There is also a spot for the two hanging hooks (you can completely open the bag in a closet with the two hanging hooks). I originally tried to replace my Tumi bag with a new Tumi tri-fold but the pockets on the current Tumi version were not adequate. I am actually pleased that Tumi did not have a bag that met my needs because this Briggs & Riley is far superior to my old Tumi back. The only negative is it weighs one pound more than the Tumi but the extra versatility is worth the weight penalty.

I'm an airline pilot, so I frequently see examples which remind me that the old adage of "you get what you pay for" is especially true with regards to luggage--the cheap stuff just does not seem to hold up to the inevitable wear & tear associated with traveling. When it was time to replace my old mid-grade garment bag, I put a fair amount of time into comparing what's available in this product category. I chose this bag because of features such as: the quality durable materials, the functionality of the interior and exterior pockets, the rear sleeve which fits over a telescoping suitcase handle, and even the shoulder strap which wraps around the collar bone and really does seem to do a better job of not slipping. As others have mentioned, due to the tri-fold design, this bag conforms to carry-on regulations, and will fit into most overhead bins (except the tiny RJ ones). This is important since closets are disappearing on a lot of airliners due to cabin re-configurations, and I'd be leery of checking a garment bag. Finally, I like giving my business to a company which stands behind their products as Briggs & Riley does with their no nonsense warranty.
