It is a good review book. concise and up to date. it is however lengthy, has small prints, and make a lot of reference to articles and publications which makes reading (for boards) a bit tedious. each section has a summary review at the end of the most important points. a very heavy book to carry as well. you probably should get this book at the beginning of third year or at least 6 months prior to taking your boards. I would like to mention that I only read one section (neuro) and skimmed over Cardio before switching to a different source.

This thing must weigh 12-15 lbs. Really, no exaggeration. Very high quality paper and beautiful photo/slide reproductions as a result. Binding a bit suspect. However, most people who buy this tome will use it for 6 months (while studying for boards) and then put it on their medical library shelf for 10 years before deciding to part with it. It should physically hold together that long. Content is very concise. Text content is much "denser" than the MKSAP series put out by the American College of Physicians. Yet, I find it much easier to stay focused (which has been a challenge for me...forever) while reading through it.
Many times, the reader is referred to recent NEJM articles for in-depth discussion of the topic at hand. This is quite a nice feature if you (or your institution) subscribe to Journal. Be aware: don't use this book as an alternative to Harrison's or Up To Date....it is for REVIEW (as it plainly advertises in the title), not reference.
