Water is added through the top watering irrigator and spreads evenly across the moisture mat and drains out the bottom of the planter into the collector. Excess water can be drained by removing the drain plug. The product is exactly as described. That said, I am not particulary happy with the overall dimensions, and the cost of the product seems exorbitant for what you actually receive. You can make the same thing on your own for a quarter of the price. If you like to cook with fresh herbs, as I do, this just wont cut it. It is far too small and the vertical planting does slow the growth process. This is a great item for decorative purposes, but just doesn't have a practical application... and it is far too pricey!

Works poorly ... very disappointed!
We have a commercial space with many plants and green walls, we tried using this for a little herb garden... as this advertised.. however the design is poor... and herbs cant root well.
Our plants care taker at the space tried his best, we tried as well, a month or taking this down to water and allowing the plants to root just were too much of trying to make this work.
this is a poor design and an expensive item.. DO NOT BUY

I thought this might be a little pricey but the quality and size were well worth the price. I planted approximately 30 very small succulents in it for my friends Birthday present. She loves it as a piece of living art for her garden.

I tried for a year and a half to make this work. The watering function is not functional. The plants fall out all the time. Shame...so cute in theory but not in real life.

It looks really cool! I'd recommend using decorative plants, it's really not much space to get enough herbs to harvest.

Some tips:
Buy more soil than the plants come with, you'll need a little extra.
Pack the dirt down into a 45 degree angle.
Let it sit for a week at an angle before putting it on the wall (I propped up one side with a shoe box).
Get a little spray bottle to water the bottom spots, the water from the top is consumed before it gets all the way down.

I wanted this to work so badly. The watering system just didn't seem to work correctly. I had areas that were so wet, it started growing mushrooms and other areas that were dry. The dirt constantly fell onto the floor. I finally had to take it down and patch the holes in my wall. I was disappointed with this product.
