Power Bright series of step up/down voltage transformers offers you a safe, reliable, affordable & convenient solution to converting voltages from 110-120 volt up to 220-240 volt or from 220-240 volt down to 110-120 volt for both home use & industrial applications. The VC1500W is rated at 1,500 watts maximum. It features a heavy-duty cord with a standard US 3-prong plug plus a free American to German outlet plug adapter. There are a total of two outputs on the front panel. Two are grounded outputs, one designated for 120 volts with a US standard outlet and 220 volt only universal outlet. For safety, it's recommended by the manufacturer that the voltage transformer's maximum power should be equal or greater than the power rating of your appliance multiplied by 1.5. For example, if you have an appliance rated at 100 watts, you will need to pick a transformer with a maximum power of 150 watts or greater.

A theoretically perfect transformer would consume no power if no power was being drawn from the load side. In the real world, transformers have multiples kinds of losses. This one consumes about 30W of power all the time, even with no load. These losses are proportional to size, so if you don't need a 1500W transformer, you might want something smaller.
I run mostly low-current loads, but I've run a large Shop-Vac on the 110V output without problems.
A pluggable jumper on the rear panel lets you choose the input voltage. In my case, I could choose between
the 220V setting and the 240V setting with corresponding changes in output voltage. If you're using it for
110V to 220V applications, you can choose between 110V and 120V input settings.
Just wanted to update, a year has passed and all is still working well. Now the smell disappeared. So I'm a happy customer.
