3.2V Professional Diagnostic Otoscope Kit with 3 specula and zippered leatherette case. This unit is BRAND NEW and the latest model from the manufacturer, RA Bock Diagnostics. It is of chrome plate brass construction which is very durable. The handle uses 2 "C" alkaline batteries (not included) to supply power to an ultra-bright high intensity 3.2 Volt LED bulb for a very bright light. The heart of any otoscope is in it's lens. Like all the finer quality otoscopes ours uses an optical quality GLASS lens that is specially-coated to help resist scratches. The lens uses a 5X magnification and is hinged and swings aside for cleaning and easy access. IMPORTANT: The otoscope head attaches to the handle with an advanced design Luer-Lock mount instead of a small screw to hold the head in place. This is the way all higher quality otoscopes lock the head in place. Our otoscope even has an all metal insufflator outlet, to facilitate use of an insufflation bulb if you choose. You will be impressed with the clarity and definition this otoscope will deliver on visualizing the tympanic membrane.

This product is simply not acceptable for clinical use or even personal use for any medical provider. I returned this immediately and bought a Welch Allyn one, which is what I should have bought in the first place. If physicians, med students, or NPs are looking for a quality, portable scope that is not too expensive, I liked the Welch Allyn pocket model (22820) which IS a quality product that is good enough for clinical use and is under $200.
THere are a lot of otoscopes for sale at different prices.
I've never used one of these before, but I'm very happy with the performance. The light is bright (and a helpful "warm" light from an incandescent bulb, not a "cool" light from an LED that makes it hard to differeniate colors).
As a newbie to otoscopes, I had to practice using it and learning how to use it. At first I was doing it incorrectly but putting my eyeball up against the otoscope's viewer. THIS IS WRONG.
I learned that the correct way is to hold it away from my eye (18"-24") while examining my child's ears and nose.
This unit does NOT have disposable adapters... the various size adapters are meant to be cleaned (e.g., with rubbing alcohol and a tissue) after each use (so as to not contaminate the other ear/nostril of the same child or different chld). I actually like this feature because the adapters are more "stout" and I don't have to waste money buying more disposable adapters.
But if you are professional looking to use this as a traveling otoscope for mission/volunteer trips to the third-world countries and need the disposable adapter feature, then you probably want to buy something else.
I have used this several times to find grass seeds in my dogs ears. It has worked great.
