This world has captivated me since I read the first book in the first series. I love these characters. They are so real to me. So many of my favorites are all back together in this third book in this spinoff series. There were some I'd hoped to never see again. Yeah, that was a surprise. But it was so nice to spend time with Kat and Daemon, Dee and Archer, and even Dawson and Beth. Loved that Hunter is around a lot. So many favorites make this a great read.
And this is a great read. It's a hard book to put down because you just want to read and read. There is so much going on with lots of hints being dropped. I noted many a hint and saw part of it coming. But really, it was a surprise. And I love that. I love all the good moments. The happiness. The growth. The struggle. The Luc moments. But really the brilliance of this book is that the hints only add to the surprise.
I adore Luc. His love for Evie is so strong. He'll do anything to protect her. The tender moments between them were numerous and appreciated. I love spending time with these two. They are perfect together. Really, they are the reason this book is so hard to put down. I just wanted to savor every moment they spent together. I love Luc's silly pick-up lines. I love how Evie is aware of the pain that lives in Luc and is trying to help him. Luc is over protective. Evie is coming into her own. They are the amazing super couple of this world. Once everything falls together, I expect they will be unstoppable together and Daedalus is not prepared for what they have unleashed.
Luc's comic relief is always welcome. I love how he wants to buy a certain newborn a lama. He always gives the most interesting gifts. Think pet rock. Ha. It's always nice to have Luc around.
The ending was intriguing. Some will call it a cliffhanger. I'm not one of them. I lived through the Opal cliffhanger and this one didn't hit me like that. I felt it coming. And it didn't unsettle me. It made me want book 4 like now but I trust this author to give me an epic book 4 that will tie this all together. I trust there to be a happy for Evie and Luc...Nadia and Luc.
Trust. Recently, I read a book 2 from a different author. It was an experience that changed my reading habits. Like Twilight got me back into reading, this book almost got me out of reading. It came down to trust. The author had broke my trust over her characters. This author, Jennifer L. Armentrout, would NEVER break my trust over characters. She may take her characters down a road I wish they didn't have to travel. She may even Opal me but I trust her to do right by her characters. Book 4 will be epic and I believe that. I can't wait for the ride.
I have probably said this before, but I was not a fan of Luc when I first read the Lux series. Now…I can see how much he and Daemon are alike. And that squeezes my heart like a doggie chew toy, because now I kind of wish that I’d given him a fair shake earlier. This book sheds some more light on how he grew up in a Daedalus facility, how he knew that he was ‘created’ for a specific purpose, and it makes you just want to give him a hug.
Evie is a powerhouse in this book, and that’s not just limited to her powers. She has a strength of heart and integrity that’s admirable, despite everything she is forced to deal with. She and Luc together is a beautiful thing, and the depth of their devotion to one another is definitely on the same level as Kat and Daemon.
Again, there is a LOT that goes down in this novel – much of which I was not prepared for. Especially the ending! Oh, holy llamas, I did NOT expect what happened at all! But after I recovered from the shock (it’s still a work in progress, to be honest), it is a brilliant twist, and I adore it – even if a part of me is still upset by it. I am eagerly awaiting the next installment of this incredible series!
The Brightest Night picks up where The Burning Shadow left off. Throughout this book, we see Evie learn more about who and what she is, as she learns to harness her power. We meet a lot of old friends in this one, and make some new ones. And there is so much delicious slow burn tension between Luc and Evie - I just love these two so much. Eh...and even Grayson grew on me in this one. (Seriously though, where does he even find all of these blow pops?)
There is a lot of (important) character development in TBN, so it reads a bit slower than some of the more action packed books in both the Lux and Origin series. There are also quote a few one off comments that I suspect hold much greater weight and insight into where this series is headed.
The Brightest Night has everything we love about a JLA book...witty banter, sarcasm, snarky comments, epic bromances, slow burning heat, alpha males, strong heroines, and a whole lot of WTF moments.
I can't wait to see what happens next.

I kept reading, hoping something is bound to happen, but it's pretty much, more of the same. Besides the above points and the return of someone presumed dead, there is nothing new right until the end. Now that is supposed to make the reader look forward to the next one, but I am not sure. I must admit that I am a little curious. As much as I love Evie, Luc and the rest of the characters, I am not sure that I want to go through much of the same again. They say that curiosity kills the cat and this might apply in this case. It's a question of wait and see.
The first couple of chapters gave the impression that this book might be the last book in the series and there was this foreboding that something big will go down in this book….favourites will die and generally s*** will go down! 😱 Hold that thought, will come back to s*** will go down bit 🙈 🙊
After the shock revelations in the previous book, Evie put her big pants on and continued to grow and develop. She went on journey of self-discovery, learning more about her past, her newly discovered abilities and how to control them with the help of Luc.
Evie and Luc’s chemistry was sizzling ♨️ and at one point I was like: ”come on guys, get a room" oh, but you do have a whole house to yourselves, so really stop teasing each other before you combust” 🙈 🙊 🤣
The banter between Evie and Greyson cracked me up and I am wondering if these two might end up being BFF’s rather than frenemies. Greyson (deep sigh), what can I say, I fell deeply and madly in love with this hot 🔥 alien 👽 candy 🍭 I need Greyson in my life, like now! 🤣
Lux is my favourite series, so I was over the moon, whenever Kat, Daemon, Dee and Dawson made an appearance! 🤩🤗 It made me want to re-read the entire series again!
Now, that ending! 🥶 😱 Holy baby aliens 👽 I did not see it coming! 😭 I am still shocked! 🤯 😱 That was the mother of all cliff-hangers! 🥶 😭 Jennifer ripped my heart ❤ out and left me to bleed on the floor 😭 😭
Guys go read this amazing book and please don’t let the slow pace of this book to deter you from reading it because despite the slow pace, so many things happened and set the tone of what is to come in the last instalment.
Where do I even start?
I freaking loved that we got the whole gang back from the Lux series it was so good to see them😍
Then omg!! All the secrets that got exposed and the twists and turns , I’m so happy I didn’t walk into a spoiler all this time because it hit quite hard! I was literally screaming of happiness because I’m a sucker like that for bad guys who in my opinion deserved more justice *ehem*
Anyway Luc is the best! Sorry, not sorry Daemon. But his pick up lines and his overprotectiveness! I loved how the book explored seller topics such as their humanity when killing and Luc’s choices. I enjoyed to listen to their debates and it really gave depth to their relationship.
And Evie is awesome, not always the brightest in making decisions but I think her character is strong and a good fit for Luc.
Now can we talk about Greyson? He is literally the most underrated character. Like can he have a book? Or at least a support group? I love him and I want to know more of him so book four gives a perfect opening space him to step in and be seen more. Thank you!😄
Anyway, I’ll just go sit in a corner and cry myself into 2021 until the next book comes out.
Luc and Evie's relationship was adorable throughout this book, at the start you see them both a mess. Evie dealing with figuring what and who she is and Luc dealing with the bomb dropped on him that a certain someone is alive. But they never fail to be there for each other, the love and support they give to each other is heart-warming. Yes they have their problems throughout this book, but they work it. There some parts when they were talking through things that I found that they repeated a lot, but nevertheless I loved it.
I enjoyed seeing Evie grow and understand her power. Plus it's interesting as hell to see them figuring out what her powers really are. There were times, especially when it would get into all the science stuff, that I was confused and found it hard to follow what certain things meant, but I think that Jen did really well at explaining it in the least science way she could. Luc as always is insane in the best way possible and I laughed out loud so often when he had another crazy idea. I loved seeing him help Evie with her powers, and push her to use the source. The fact that near the end he was letting her be beside him rather then behind him showed really good character grow.
---------------BIG SPOILERS AHEAD-----------------------
What made me happiest about this book was Katy's and Daemon's baby, Adam. My heart was overwhelmed. Katy and Daemon have been two of my favourite characters for years, and seeing them grown up as a happy family made so so happy. Also seeing that neither Kat or Daemon had changed in this book was even better. When she did the big empowering speech on Evie's side, I couldn't help but smile at it. It was such a Katy thing to do.
Onto the big thing I did not see coming. BLAKE'S ALIVE. Like WHATTTT. Jen has done it again and left me so shocked. When I first read it I couldn't believe it, I had to read over the chapter a couple of times for it to sink in. Now I don't think Daemon should out right kill him, as much as I would like it, but i don't think there is going to be any redemption for Blake, after all he's done he just cannot be trusted at all, so maybe locking him away will work. I also don't trust him completely, especially after the day he showed up the soldiers came. Also, i don't fully trust Viv, the way she was crying about the kids made me think she feels guilty about it, that she may have a part in it all. They mentioned about there being a mole in Zone 3, I think it could be her.
Now onto THAT ending. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED. Jen just doesn't hold back with the jaw dropping cliff-hangers. I had to sit there for five minutes after reading it, I couldn't deal. I have to say I did see it coming a bit, I knew something would happen with Luc but not like that! And Evie remembers everything! WHAT?! I think she is going to struggle with it in the last book, coming to terms with everything and a life she now remembers. My theory is that Luc isn't completely lost, I think he's going to destroy the last of the Daedalus. I have no clue what's going to happen or what to expect for the last book. One thing I hope to see if Katy helping Evie with dealing with the loss of Daemon as she had to go through in Origin. I'm so excited to see what happens next but also very sad as it will be the final of the Lux world, sad times. Jen has amazed me again!
