In the book, you will find bits and pieces of Bryan's life story, told with wit and humor, but, at times, a poignancy that can bring tears to your eyes. You also find good, common sense advice on topics ranging from friendship, love and relationships, to succeeding in school, to thinking positively, even when overwhelmed by negative thoughts.
Above all, you find so much hope, enthusiasm, and joy, that silver lining we all look for, that you just want to get up and do something, anything, that maybe you have been procrastinating against doing because of your innate fear of failure that is too often part of the daily struggle with ADHD. With Bryan's book, you can see the potential for making your own dreams come true, as you come to accept and understand ADHD, maybe for the first time, and feel the brilliant reality in yourself, that Special Feeling Inside You, that Bryan talks about.
I also highly recommend Bryan's newest book, Adult ADHD Can Be Sexy. Adult ADHD Can Be Sexy!
Chapter after chapter, I found myself relating to the ups and downs of ADHD. Page by page, I was so encouraged as I learned helpful & practical methods to overcome the daily difficulties of living with ADHD and parenting children diagnosed with ADHD.
In one chapter, I was laughing to myself about the hysterical and off-the-wall situations that ADDers continuously find themselves in! During another chapter, tears are softly flowing down my cheeks as I read Bryan's bittersweet story of when he was a child and he grew up hearing that he was "lazy, irresponsible and careless."
What I LOVED about reading this book is that Bryan provided positive, motivational and "real life" strategies for overcoming ADHD challenges. Bryan's insightful writing encourages and equips the readers to EMPOWER themselves to become the BEST person they were created to become!
Whether you are a parent of children diagnosed with ADHD, a professional working with ADDers, in a relationship with an ADDer or you were diagnosed with ADHD, I highly recommend reading this book!!!
In fact, he did more than teaching me how to live with the ADHD symptoms. He helped me learn how it shows up in daily life (sometimes it's not as obvious as one thinks), and learn to embrace it. His section on hyper-focus was my favourite, and reaffirmed what I had only glimpses of previously - how to use your ADHD to your advantage.
The book was a inspiring read, with personal stories that one with ADHD (or wanting to know more) can relate to, and brings a few smiles along the way to ease past pains. A brand new angle can change how one approaches life. I would happily recommend this book to people with ADHD or wanting to find out more.
