One of the things I love so much about Kate's books is her characterisation, and although this was a novella, she didn't disappoint me. I was unsure of Finnian until I began to notice that there was a lot of sneakiness going on under that almost-too-perfect-and-good exterior, and I loved Magdalena from the start.
I ate this up in a single afternoon, and now I'm sad that I have to wait for the next book...
I loved Stradling’s The Legendary Inge, and liked Namesake (though that main character was a little... too bitter? For me to read. Kate Stradling is now on auto buy.
Who doesn't love Disney's version of The Little Mermaid? But when I read the original version, I was crushed with its tragic ending. I couldn't accept it. So I stuck with Disney's version, despite knowing they sugar-coated the story. But Kate came by and gave the PERFECT resolution to how the original version was written & I love it. It reconciled everything wrong with the original whilst keeping true to its homage.
I love Malena from e start, she's a loveable character who's true to herself. I was afraid Finnian would be, well, finicky... but he proved a main character I too fell in love with.
I wish I can say more about how great this novella is but I can't do so without spoilers. So I'll just anxiously wait for the next mindblowing novel or novella from Kate.
