The gloves initially had a good grip, but when they got wet they became slippery. With some proper cleaning solution they may maintain their grip better, but I gave them to a friend because I ordered a size too large, anyway. When the instructions say to round up, I would not do so.
The turf that I play on tore the palms of these up quite a bit. The finger support, while good for the upper joints, did not prevent strain of the first joint of my fingers. I would say that for this price range with a beginner keeper, these gloves are a good start. Once you get more play time under your belt or need to keep in adverse conditions, you will probably want something more specialized. Something like what West Coast Goalkeeping makes is the next step up from these..
While I know to most non-goalkeepers that doesn't sound like a lot, that extra space throws off the grip grabbing the ball, throwing, etc. So I will return these for a smaller size. Unfortunately the smaller size below 10 is 7. So it looks like a different brand will be in store.
-GREAT material (for protection, nice and thick).
-I love the finger-bending-backwards protection.
-I like the design.
-Game 1, the seams split on the index figure of the left hand from impact I would assume.
-The measurement for the glove size are spot on for the palms but the fingers are super long, maybe I just have chubby hands.
-The velcro straps that go around the wrist are no where near long enough, again, maybe I just have abnormally large wrists.
-The ball seemed to keep slipping from my hands. I was expecting a little more tackiness in the material. Could have been the ball, could have been me not grabbing tight enough.
All in all, for the price, I wouldn't buy these again. For half the price (a Jackson), I'd do it again .
The gloves offer excellent protection to fingers. Wrist protection is OK, but if you want more protection on the wrist you may wanna consider upgrading to more expensive types.
Feels great when punching, pushing or catching the ball. Of course the $100 Uhlsports gloves do better in these aspect, but can't really complain for the price.
Also it is very durable on turf (many expensive gloves are designated for professional keepers on grass, and their latex palms wear quickly at turf fields). If you take good care of it (just simply wash it with mild detergent after use, don't let dirt build up on the palm as it may bruise the material), it can easily last for a year.
I believe this is the best pair of gloves for under $50. It could be the choice for most of the amateur goalies.
Price - at the time I believe these were around $30 which is relatively less expensive than others size 9's for an adult. Depending on wear and tear, I go through gloves every couple months; $30 isn't bad for the number of games these are used.
Fit - The fit was exactly as I expected. The backbone behind the fingers have already saved me from injury several times.
Color - But that's a subjective con. I don't really mind the color during play, but it has to be mentioned. Personally looking for darker gloves.
Keeping these clean/washed every couple weeks extends their life span; but I did begin seeing minimal wear on the palm after 2-3 weeks (I use these 4x a week). Nonetheless, it's been about 2 months since I've started using these and they're still performing at a high level. No rips, excessive wear, or tears along the fingers. Velcro around the wrists is strong as needed. Grip level has decreased but not significantly to needing to get new ones. Overall, I would buy these again time after time for the $30 price but it does seem as though the prices have gone up.
