Haley March is the owner of a matchmaking service in Golden Falls, Alaska- where the men are plentiful, but the women... aren't. She decides to run an ad campaign to try and entice more women to "Bring Their Hearts" to Alaska, and she mentions this to her friend, news anchor Cassie Holt. Cassie uses her connections to put Haley in touch with a national dating site, and they like Haley's idea so much they want to add her project to their national website. They want to use Haley's own love story as the feature story for her campaign. The problem? Haley has been completely unlucky in the love department, and now she has exactly two months to find her "forever love."
Josh Barnes is an ex-military hero and a Golden Falls firefighter. He is also Mr. December on the Golden Falls Fireman's calendar, so he certainly isn't suffering from a lack of dates. He spends almost all of his free time caring for and training his sled dogs for the big yearly Iditarod race, so he doesn't want to deal with any relationship entanglements.
Josh joins a group of firefighters from the station at one of Haley's matchmaking events as a favor to a friend, and he becomes instantly taken by the combination of Haley's sweet nature and her spicy assertiveness. When they're together, sparks fly, but since Josh "isn't a forever kind of guy", he's off limits. Haley asks Josh to help her by being her dating coach, and to help her improve her image. Josh takes her shopping, (which happens to be a favorite scene of mine!) and shows Haley how sexy she really is. Josh's problem? The more time he spends with Haley, the more certain he is that he doesn't want anyone else to have her...
I loved watching the dance between Josh the "lone wolf" and Haley the "butterfly". The first book in this series took place mostly in the wilderness around Golden Falls, while this second book is set within the town. It was described so vividly that I felt like I was right there- walking down the streets during the tree lighting ceremony, and looking at Denali's peak off in the distance. The sex scenes are hot yet tastefully done, and the characters are described in such a way that you feel as if you know them. The dialogue is fun and lively, and each character is well developed.
I truly do love this series! I'm off to start reading the next book in the series: From the Ashes. I certainly hope that there will be many more Golden Falls Fire books in the future.
I received an ARC of this book (as well as grabbing my own finished copy), and I voluntarily chose to write an honest review.
The heroine is a young woman that moved to Alaska to get away from a bad childhood and neglectful parents. Her family was wealthy and the parents spent their time with their social lives and charities at the expense of her and her brother. As soon as she became of age she left and never looked back. Now she is doing well in her adopted town. Small town but big on community and enjoying life. She has several irons in the fire but her biggest endeavor is a matchmaking business. Men are two to one where women are concerned so she needs to bring the women to Alaska that are interested in finding forever love. For herself she has not had much luck in the love department.
She meets the hero Josh and he is everything she wants. However, she wants forever and he doesn't so that poses a problem. How they solve it is what this story is about. I really enjoyed the story it was hard to find a place to put it down. There is a lot of information about Alaska, racing dog sleds, the lifestyle and conditions of living in the wilds of Alaska. I have to admit, as much as I hate the cold, this book makes it very tempting to move!! But, don't think i will leave Florida!! The story is very entertaining and I definitely recommend it. Now this book does have a HEA for these two. There is a secret that only two people know about and it is not revealed in this story. It will probably come later when the other brother gets his own story. You can sort of guess what is going on so it doesn't leave you feeling as though there is a cliffhanger. It is just a tease to get you interested in reading the next book. I really enjoyed the story and liked the author's style of writing. I really liked the Alaskan background as well.
I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 3/14/18
