Dr. Sandra Scantling, Author of: Ordinary Couples, Extraordinary Sex (Doubleday).
Mona Barbera has written a valuable book for couples and also for life!
I am a relationship therapist and this is my “go to” book I suggest to my clients to read together.
I have seen how this book helps couples regain connection giving “better back” time and again. This engaging book uses a method that is rooted in the Internal Family Systems Model of viewing personality. The author, Mona Barbera, explains how to apply this IFS lens to being in a connected couple through exercises and easy to follow teachings. You will learn how to turn your reaction to your partner into learnings for yourself. When this happens you get into responding from a Self led place and not your strongest emotion. Through paying attention to your own reaction you can learn what it is you need and how to ask for that need from a place of calm compassion and connection. She explains that it is close relationships that wake up our strong vulnerable emotions not necessarily being with the wrong person. This author not only explains the Internal Family Systems approach in an easy to understand manner but the exercises are supportive in learning more about yourself and healing your own hurts. This way of being in your relationship will invite your partner to join you in this clearer more loving connection. Better in yourself and better connected with your partner.
