The character Sam is incredibly patient, the lady he helps, Tara, seems intentionally naive and is argumentative. Sam's wife Lauren and her son are normal people as are others in the town. At first I was frustrated because, like so many PA books, all the strangers Sam and Tara came across while escaping the city were robbers or violent, or at least presumed to be, so that you'd better pull your gun on them then get surprised when they shoot back. But then when we got to Lauren's story, she did come across a very helpful and nice stranger. A clean exciting read with lots of adventure but not so much that it's overwhelming and tiring.
