Product Description

Product Description

The Brinno Hidden Front Door Camera uses a 3 inch LCD panel and a micro SD slot to display who is at your door and capture the image without alerting them to your presence. It turns a hard-to-see peephole image into a big bright image. Simply push the button to see and record a large image of the person outside your door. The image is easy to see for people of any height and is similar to that on the display of a digital camera. The viewer compensates for low-light images and eliminates "fish eye" distortion. A second press of the button provides a zoomed image, which enlarges the center of the image for viewing facial details. Repeated presses toggle between regular and zoom modes. An optional Knocking Sensor accessory snaps into the back of the unit and causes the Hidden Front Door Camera to record a photo every time someone knocks on your door, regardless of whether you're at home. An optional Motion Sensor accessory mounts wirelessly outside your door and causes the Hidden Front Door Camera to record a photo when someone approaches the door, whether you're at home or away. Turns off automatically after 10 seconds to conserve battery life. When the batteries are low, the red Low Battery Light flashes. Replaces existing peep hole in doors 1-3/8" to 2 1/4-Inch thick. Quick, easy installation. Requires 2 AA batteries (included). 2GB micro SD card is NOT included in package.

A great product. It is easy to install and functions well. Since I leave the porch light on at night, the visual on the monitor is very close to the normal daylight view. The only issue I have with this product is the plastic snap ring that installs on the inside of the door to lock the monitor portion to the peephole. The monitor requires a quarter turn to lock to the snap ring after it is installed with the peephole. If the snap ring is not locked down tight to the peephole, it turns with the monitor portion. The key provided to secure the peephole is not made to allow for an over tightening of the snap ring to the peephole. The batteries are installed on the monitor side, you have to remove this portion of the unit to replace the batteries. If the snap ring isn't secured tightly, it will turn and you will never get the monitor portion off without damaging the unit ( a hard lesson learned ). My fix was to add a small nail through the snap ring into the door. This way the ring will not rotate when installing or removing the monitor.

While this peephole viewer is better than the Cannon Security brand, it still doesn't quite live up to the advertising. Installation was quite easy and the instructions were great. The main problem is that the picture is overexposed, even with indirect lighting and anyone at the door looked like a silhouette, their features hard to discern. I liked the picture taking ability but you've got to provide your own 32G micro SD card. The night enhancement was OK. Overall, not worth the price, but better than Cannon's.

I was looking for a basic system to record people coming onto our property. Because our front door faces the only easily accessible gate we thought this would be a great solution. Self contained, no wiring, digital record with date and time stamp, mounted indoors so weather protection not a concern. The fact you could answer the doorbell with a great view of the visitor was a definite plus.

The promotional literature shows clear images taken through the peephole video system. What we got was anything but.

First, the installation was easy - remove the existing peephole, replace with the one included using the mounting plate. The camera snaps on and you're ready to go.

When I turned it on I thought I must have installed it wrong - the image was extremely washed out and it only showed the top less than half of what you can see through the optical peephole directly. You could see only the very top of the head of anyone standing outside the door. Not only did it not enhance the view it blocked the visitor completely!

Multiple uninstall /re-installs later I was sure the directions were followed correctly. I then looked at the recorded images. Surprisingly those pictures show the whole view just as you see it when the unit is not installed. The image was not nearly as washed out but the resolution was marginal. Our entry walk area has a roof so it is brighter beyond. I tried night images with the overhead porch lights on to check for back lighting issues. The screen image was still very overexposed.

We sent pictures to customer service and their response was:

The Brinno Digital Viewer works very well, the only problem is it doesn't work very well in the dark. To solve this we installed some solar powered lights near the doorway, they turn on and off automatically so light is never an issue.

I installed it in about 10 minutes. I added the motion sensor also. Installation required no tools whatsoever. I also added the 32gb microSD card.

The motion sensor is opposite my door on a large overhead beam. It has a 15 foot range from the peephole viewer. So far, after a few days use, it's worked well. It comes with industrial strength 3M double sided tape or you can screw it onto something. I used the 3M tape because I have had good experiences with it on other items (GoPro Surf). The power button on the viewer makes no noise at all like some reviewers have said. With the motion sensor, there is no need to press the power button unless I want to review pics because it comes on automatically when something moves in front of my door.

The exposure is perfect, but my front door has an overhang providing shading and direct sunlight never hits it.

The hardest part of this entire installation was setting up the date and time on the viewer. Now I'll just wait to see what it catches :-)

The brinno Peephole viewer does a very poor job. In fact, my regular viewer did a far better job of distinguishing who is at the door. Don't even think about buying their motion activated sensor! The only thing you will get are photos of the backside of the person walking away. Sent the 1st one back requesting a replacement, installed it within 3-feet of the viewer and obtained the same terrible results.

Believe the negative reviews. Had the prior model too. On a shaded porch, in daylight the light blows out any image of a person in the shade. With a strong porch light, at night it is somewhat ok. Malfunction in memory card interface after several months -cannot access old pictures. And only a 1.3 megapixel camera - back to circa 2000 technology. When you even see one, face detail is lacking. Avoid.
