To this day, I am still not sure how this filter works and how the flashing light knows when it is time to change the filter. At no time does the water, indicator light or filter touch, but still it seems to know.

The last filter I purchased I swear that it said to change every three months but this new and improved filter says two months, but the same 40 gallons of water. That is not something that I keep track of but when the green light turns red, then I know it is time for replacing and that usually happens every 2 – 3 month.

Do not believe the directions. They now say that you do not have to presoak the filter, just rinse it for 15 seconds under running water. This made the water taste horrible. I went back to soaking it for 15 minutes and the water is much better.

Every time I replace the filter, I tend to run into the same issue of it not seating correctly. This time I took the reservoir out and spun the filter until it grabbed correctly. Not sure if others have this same type of issue, but this made better sense to me. I also ran into the issue of the blinking light not turning green with the new filter. It was not until I presoaked it that the light turned green. Now I am finally back to the clean tasting water that I am accustomed to.

I am on city water and from time to time, the chlorine taste is unbearable and the hard water deposits have ruined two coffeemakers. I have noticed that with the Brita pitcher and filter I am receiving consistently pleasant tasting water and no problems with my coffeemaker.

I guess my takeaway with this latest filter is to go back to the original directions and realize that new and improved is not always better.

Tried the cheaper, Non-Brita filters and they just aren't as good unfortunately. These new Brita filters also do not require a 15 minute soak in water,. you instead just run cold water over the water filter now for 15 seconds and it is ready to go. Also, there are so far a lot less black flecks in the top of the Brita canister and the water tastes great. Overall, to save a $1.50-2 (ish) dollars, the off-brand filters are just not worth it, my guess is they do not contain as much activated charcoal, I base this on my vast knowledge of water filter technology and science background that comes with being a communications major, so basically, nothing, but the filter is great.

Fantastic water filter, and when Brita says "advanced" they aren't blowing smoke.

I was disenchanted with Brita back in the day - the filters seemed awfully fussy to set up, and they seemed to need changing quite often. So far I haven't had any issues with these new filters. Priming it took 15 seconds - no joke - and it was pretty much ready right after priming. That's to say, I didn't get any black dust or floaties in the first few loads, like I did with the older filters.

So I'm back to Brita. This is a good filter and it does a good job.

Filter leaks and a large portion of the water does not get filtered through my Brita Brita Grand Water Filter Pitcher, Yellow, 10 Cup. I purchased this filter so as to remove the unpleasant taste of tap water, this filter only diminishes the taste as much of the water still gets through unfiltered as this does not accurately fit my pitcher.

Edit: Brita customer support promptly replaced my filter. The replacement, an exact order of this, fit my Brita as it should. Following the directions, clearly labeled and easy to understand on the package, was easy and after placing the filter in my Brita the water started flowing as it should. No water leakage occurred and the water that filtered through tasted clean and great with no taste taste of tap water.

Sorry to hear that. It is possible that the filter was not properly inserted, but there is a super easy fix. Prior to inserting, make sure you flush the filter with cold water for 15 seconds. Ensure that the groove under the filter lines up with the notch in the reservoir. Then simply press down on the filter firmly until it seats into the reservoir. If you continue to experience problems with your filters or pitchers in the future, please feel free to give us a call at 1-800-24BRITA Monday-Friday, between 9am-5:30pm EST. I looked at the bottom of my filter and noticed mold or something building up in the screen of the Brita filter I was using which was a YEAR old. So it was way over due for a new one. This was a perfect replacement. Works great and it filters water faster now so I know I had a bunch of build up in the old filter. Thanks

I really wish the Brita filter system was designed better. Seriously. They don't even fit in the pitcher properly; they occasionally fall out if you pour the water at too steep an angle. These filters aren't even consistent in quality. I'm having to return the most recent one I bought (here on Amazon) because the water pours right through it way faster than normal, and then still tastes like chlorine. Oh, Brita. I think I'm going to have to invest in a better water filtration system.

These don't even filter fluoride!

Fits in standard pitchers, just has a new design. No soaking needed, which is a plus.

I had the same problem that others on Amazon are having with this product (who likely left bad reviews as I'm doing here right now). I just purchased this same filter from Walmart recently along with a brand new Brita water pitcher (yes both the filter and pitcher are new and compatible with each other...and the filter that came with the pitcher had the same issue as well). I thought I was crazy as to why quite a bit of the "dirty" water was leaking through the filter around the edges of where the filter sits flush with the pitcher housing; and watching the 'dirty' water drip around the actual filter and into the "clean" water reservoir I just cringed and scratched my head... After triple checking and making sure the filter was properly rotated so that it inserted into the unit all the way properly, I pushed so darn hard that I was ready for the unit to break, the filter "looked" flush with the water pitcher housing...and alas, water still leaks through and the filter clearly does NOT seal well with this unit. I find it almost humorous that I only came here to read these Amazon reviews describing the same exact issues after I decided to Google my problem and see if there was a magic solution, and I see Brita repeatedly replying with "we're sorry! call our customer service and we will help!"...or "you need to insert the filter properly by lining it up and firmly pressing down".

If you go onto Brita's website and look up their advanced water filters for sale and check out the customer reviews there, you will ALSO find more dissapointed customers complaining about the water filters not properly sealing and allowing dirty water to pass through...
