The good things about the seat are many although after installing it I had to take it out of my car and exchange it for a new one (a super easy process through Amazon). It installed easily, par for the course with britax seats in my experience. The cover is thick and seems very comfortable. The foam is a styrofoam texture which, along with the soft cover, makes this seat the most comfortable looking seat we own. My little one has been fussy in the infant carrier but was happy sitting in this seat in the living room. The fabric is easy to detach, no need to uninstall the seat or retread the harness, and washes well. It dried completely overnight with the exception of the pillow that goes under the baby's bottom when rear facing at under 22lbs, that piece took an extra day to dry all the way through.
I did a rear facing install and discovered that britax no longer recommends tethering their seats while rear facing. They now use an anti rebound bar instead. It's included with Canadian seats but not with seats sold in the United States as they can pass the required tests without it. Britax sells them on their website for $20 plus an additional $7 in handling and shipping. While I understand that they are a for profit company this just seems greedy. If the seat is safer with the bar it should come with the bar especially since this is an already expensive seat.
The reason I had to exchange it was because out of the box I noticed that the shell of the seat is not securely attached to the base. It can be wiggled around a bit. I've never seen anything like it on any seat and it made me wonder if something had happened when it was being manufactured. I called the customer service number and spoke to a woman who was not entirely helpful or polite. Maybe she was just having a bad day but I felt like she just didn't care. When I was explaining the situation she cut me off and asked that I send a video. I said I'm not really sure how to go about doing that and since the motion is so minimal I'm not sure a video would show what's going on. She then said she couldn't help me if I wouldn't send a video and suggested I take it to a car seat check and have them send a video. The soonest local check is two weeks away and a 40 minute drive each way. I need the seat now as my baby has just about outgrown our infant carrier. I'm still bothered by this phone call as I've never experienced anything less than fantastic customer service from britax.
Overall I like the seat but I feel the quality control and customer service are lacking. The anti rebound bar should absolutely be an included accessory. These issues along with the easy, secure install (even with the belt) and very comfortable seating area have me giving it a four star, I like it, rating.
We also own a Britax advocate click tight, which is used in our car at home.
The Britax boulevard is not as heavy as expected at just over 19 pounds but still feels sturdy. It fit in a united economy plus seat rear facing. The seat was 17.2" wide. The width was not a problem at all and the arm rest could be lowered. Rear facing was tricky but it did fit with the extra 4" provided by the economy plus seating. However, forward facing would be much easier. We did not need a seat extender for the plane's seat belt.
The seat is really pretty easy to install with a seatbelt. Once mastered, it takes about two minutes to install. Believe me I installed it three times in one day both in departing and returning home.
It doesn't fit through the X-ray machine so the tsa just inspects it and tests the fabric for chemicals. We had ours on the Britax wheelie cart.
Our son vomited in the seat about three minutes before we arrived at the airport, not his fault, grandma is notorious for being a horrible driver. When we got to our destination I had to strip off the cover and soak it in detergent. It was intuitive and fairly easy to accomplish. It smelled much better on the way home.
But, I have to say that, this seat is no where near as sturdy as our Advocate click tight. It's not even comparable.
For everyday, I would spend the money and get the new advocate. It's a beast.
The Velcro on the straps don't line up propoperly on the seat, but I could care less. It IS tight on my baby's thighs, and he's only in the 25th percentile for weight. I was able to help this by removing the Velcro strap covers, and adding a little slack to the belt (not a ton obviously) but I think it's okay now. Once my 15 month old gets bigger I'll probably add the seat belt covers again. Without a doubt this could be an issue for big thighs. I think for us it's okay. I bought an evenflow for my husbands car, and it's really flimsy compared to this seat, so much so that I'm sending it back to Amazon. I bought a second Britax seat in an "warehouse deal" for a ton less than retail.
Another thing to keep in mind, this is made in the USA, my humble opinion is that we need to pony up a few dollars more to support products manufactured here. If you don't think that matters, do a quick search on how much more toxic dyes and chemicals are in baby products that come from china, it's astounding.
