About the Author

Barney Stinson is awesome. He works for a powerful bank in New York City but somehow finds time to “suit up” and help the less fortunate, in particular his lovelorn and all together pathetic bro Ted Mosby—seriously, that dude’s got probs. When Barney’s not staging private bikini calendar shoots, test-driving tanks, or elbow-deep in another legendary activity, like riding a tiger bareback or blowing up a guitar, he can be seen on the hit CBS show How I Met Your Mother with his friends Ted, Robin, Lily, and Marshall.

INTRODUCTION

Whether we know it or not, each of us lives a life governed by an internalized code of conduct. Some call it morality. Others call it religion. I call it "the Bro Code."

For centuries men have attempted to follow this code with no universal understanding of what such an arrangement meant: Is it okay to hug a Bro?* If I'm invited to a Bro's wedding, do I really have to bring a gift? Can I sleep with a Bro's sister or mother or both?

Now, for the first time on paper, I have recorded the rules of social decorum that Bros have practiced since the dawn of man...if not before. The Bro Code previously existed only as an oral tradition (heh), so I have journeyed the globe to piece together and transcribe the scattered fragments of the Bro Code, pausing only to flesh it out myself (double heh). While not intending to write a "Guide to Being a Bro," if men should treat it as such and pass this compendium of knowledge from one generation to the next, I have little doubt it would bring a tear to my eye. But not out of it. That would be a violation of Article 41: A Bro never cries.

It is my hope that, with a better understanding of the Bro Code, Bros the world over can put aside their differences and strengthen the bonds of brotherhood. It is then, and only then, that we might work together as one to accomplish perhaps the most important challenge society faces -- getting laid. Before dismissing this pursuit as crass and ignoble, consider this postulate: without the sport inherent in trying to bang chicks, would men willingly have sex for the sole purpose of producing smelly, screaming babies?

Centuries from now, when a Bro applies the rudiments of the Bro Code to score a three-boobed future chick, the only thanks I'll need is the knowledge that I -- in whatever small capacity -- Bro'd him out...though if he could figure out how to bring me back to life, that would be pretty awesome, too. -- Barney Stinson ™ & © 2008 by Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation. You know.... There are books that are supposed to help you learn something, then there are books that are fun. This one is pure fun!

Written with the Barney Stintson style, it lists rules for men hanging out with dudes to live by in a funny way. A typical page is one sentence long. Some pages have examples and diagrams that add to the experience.

Why buy this book?
- 1. You are a man, and don't understand the essentials of how to treat your bros
- 2. You want to laugh
- 3. You don't really want to admit that you like reading
- 4. You're a woman, and you want to rip on guys and/or understand men better

Why should you not buy this book?
- 1. You are easily offended
- 2. You are sexist
- 3. You are too old to appreciate the single guy humor
- 4. You are a speed reader - in which case you should have already read it in the store

This book isn't some quick, half-hearted cash-in for How I Met Your Mother Fans, it's basically Barney Stinson in paperback form. The Bro Code is hilarious. If you're a fan of the show you'll likely hear Neil Patrick Harris' voice in your head as you read the book cover-to-cover. With diagrams, footnotes, and over 150 "codes" written by the show's writers, this is a can't miss book.

This book embodies what it means to be a bro, how to act like a bro, and even proper punishment for violation of bro code. Besides countless laughs this book does in fact set a good standard for bro's to follow

This was a very funny book. That said I must warn anyone that reads this book should do so with a good sense of humor. It is not a politically correct book, but what would be the fun of reading a book that was on the subject of Bros before ho's. As I read this book I could picture Barney Stinson passing along this wisdom to Ted and Marshall. If you want to have laugh or two then read the Bro Code.

This book is a quick but funny read. I finished it in one sitting, but I swear I as I read the book I could hear the spoken word of Barney from How I Met Your Mother. The lessons are meant as a joke, but in reality most college guys do live by these rules.

This is a must have for any fan of the show How I Met Your Mother.

GREAT BOOK. THE ALMIGHTY BRO CODE. THE LAWS THAT GOVERN THE BROS OF THE WORLD. IT'S LIKE... THEY SHOULD MAKE A LAWYER FOR THE BRO CODE (kinda like that one scene where marshall acts as a judge with Barney and Ted during Barney's wedding).

Needless to say, You really need it.
