Without all the sex scenes, the book might be 40 pages. Maybe this writer/series is more targeted at erotica, in which case, skip the plot altogether.
The story line is a very good one. The characters of the book are written well and I didn't see the twist at the end coming.
It keep's you on the edge of your seat wanting to know what's coming next. A real page turner.
It's full of a lot of hot steamy panties melting sexual content. Lot's of cursing like a sailor minus the sailor and suspense to the very end.
Well worth the money and highly recommended :0) If your the prudish type you wont like it so don't bother.
Brody “Brutus” Jackson isn’t your average small-town mechanic. The shop where he spends his days doubles as the headquarters for the mercenary group he works with. They jokingly call themselves the Bang Shift because the government contracts they take are the less savory ones, and they’re all just shady enough to do what’s necessary to get the jobs done. As far as Brody’s concerned, it’s the perfect arrangement for a man with no memory of his past, and no hope for the future.
Under FBI protection, Alexandria Collins and her son have been in hiding for ten years. When it’s time to move again, her piece of crap car breaks down and the man giving her a tow is the biggest, hottest guy she’s ever seen. She is determined to ignore the need her long-neglected body hungers for. After all, the last man she showed interest in put a gun to her head.
Brody thinks the skittish Xan is sexy as hell, but it’s not her hot body that has him rocked to his core. He knows her from somewhere, and in his line of work, that’s a dangerous thing. Following orders have never been this hard, but when he finds out she’s his next assignment, he will protect her at all costs … even if what she needs protection from most is him.
It wasn't as well polished as the other books I've read with this type of undercover group. The group itself seemed like a misfit bunch of men run by a man with no clue. They do better running the garage than undercover missions.
Brody was a bit of a douche. So I was not feeling it for him.
Xan was a mess. One minute she doesn't trust men, the next she's sleeping with Brody, then she's out at the bar dressed slutty and trying to find a new man. I guess she got over her mistrust real quick.
Roxie was back and forth for me. I never really trusted her so I couldn't get into her character.
The other garage guys did not leave me wanting to read any more about them. I have no interest in continuing this series.
The book had its moments when I would be hooked, and could feel the emotional involvement, but they were fleeting. The ending does wrap up a lot of the earlier issues, so it was all part of the storyline not just bad writing. But knowing that doesn't change my opinion of the book from early on. There were a few inconsistencies. And I think authors need to know what they are talking about or do their research. There are times you can't just wing it for the sake of the story. The WitSec aspect was such a huge part of the story and so far fetched it made it hard to even believe any of it. So I was turned off by everything attached to that part of the plot, which was practically the whole book. This book would have benefitted from a beta reader who could fact check for the author.
It also has bad language, and some violent scenes.
I will say the mystery was a good one, but honestly that is nearly the only good thing
I liked about it. Oh and the characters were well developed.
But the romance was pretty much non existent, you have an abused women running and hiding from
her ex husband who beat, raped, and tried to kill her by shooting her in the head.
The words say she was scared of men, but she sure never acted that way.
The words say she was only with One man before Brody, (the abusive Ex) so she didn't know much
about sex, but her actions told another story. And no women who was abused like she was would ever
put up with a man like Brody and the way he treated her in the bedroom and out... very unrealistic
This book had way too many repeats, I read over and over how she hadn't trusted a man in 12 years.
No sex in 12 years, and repeats about how she was abused by Marco, and how many times she had to move.
and some other things kept repeating too. " Repeats get on my nerves, I want to yell out loud, I heard you the first time!
Okay I got it now let's get on with the mystery"....
but the mystery takes a back seat to all the rough sex scenes...which I did not find hot at all..
The ending wraps up quick. It did have a interesting twist at the end which I liked.
Not going to recommend this one, sorry... it just seemed like a hot mess to me,
the words say one thing but the actions say another. Not my kind of book...
