The owner left plenty of old furniture. Immy will decide later what she will use. Jersey and Immy head upstairs to the bedrooms and find a man asleep in one of the beds. He quickly dresses and leaves. Why does he look familiar to Immy? The police are called and the intruder is caught. It turns out the intruder is Immy’s Uncle Dewey. Immy decides to rent the house and goes back to Shorr Realty. When all the paperwork is completed, Vance Valentin, another realtor takes Immy back to the house so she can complete her tour. This time they don’t find anyone sleeping in the beds. They do find a very dead body in the bathtub. The police think Dewey is the prime suspect. Immy doesn’t believe he is a murderer – a con man yes – a murderer no. Immy will have to put her detective skills to the test. She better be very careful or she could end up possessed.
Things to ponder: Why is Vance Valentin interested in the old furniture in Immy’s rental house? What knocked the chandelier into Vance’s face? Who was Drew talking to in the middle of the night?
This series just gets better with each addition. I really enjoy reading about Immy and her family and friends. Hortense’s vocabulary will keep you on your toes. This book is well-plotted and I found myself up late reading to find out whodunit. There are plenty of suspects to keep you guessing. It is laugh out loud funny and that made this one delightful read. So if you like your mystery to have a PI wannabe, then you should be reading Broke.

On the cusp of becoming a P.I., Imogene decides to solve the case. Her precipitous action puts her in harm’s way and riles up her neighbor, her landlord, and her realtor.
Lots of laugh-out-loud moments in George’s mystery. It was easy to read and to keep the characters straight. My fav character? Hardworking and very handy boyfriend, Ralph.
