Do not read. Do not pass go. Do not collect 200 dollars!!! (unless, of course, you have already read the book or you just seriously don't mind them... which in case, you are a pod person)
When important people die in books, a lot of times it ends up being just for the shock factor. At first, I thought that was all this was going to be and it annoyed the everliving hell out of me... then I got over it... but only bc Mrs. Sue made me. Her writing really just grabs me. Ive read her two newest books and they are pretty amazing and so I decided to take a chance on this series. I enjoyed the first book but it was a 4 star read for me. Still good but not great, ya know? This one is a solid 4.5. any book that can take a pet piece of mine and turn it around and make it a plus is amazing. I continued to shed tears and even had a bit of a quiver to my bottom lip a couple times lol. The death ended up being a horribly sad, devastating, and beautiful thing and has left me in awe of this author.
I'm broke as a joke and am still about to purchase the next book in this series bc the writing is that good (:
Having said that, I will warn you that this series is not for the faint of heart. If you are a fan of happily ever afters, then proceed with an open mind about what that means. It's difficult for me to write this review, because I find myself profoundly affected by the end of the second book, in a way that I never anticipated. And while the story is masterfully written, I'm not certain I will continue with this particular series. Having said that, I'm grateful Ms. Sue has other series she has written that I fully intend to read! Give it a try - you will not be disappointed, no matter where the story leaves you.
I really don't like getting invested into characters and their lives only to have the author kill off one of the main characters. It was done well, don't get me wrong but I just felt cheated when it happened and from that point on had a hard time caring whether I finished the book or not. I did push through but even the HEA felt empty. Maybe it's because I work in Healthcare and I see plenty of death that I just don't want my protagonists in my fiction world to die. For this reason alone I will be cautious to ever read this author again, even with her great skill.
Brilliantly written, the storyline is amazing and I am so invested in all of them, my emotions are all over the place. All I can say is it had better be fixed in the next book. I am blown away by how good this is. Well done!!
