Those who read my reviews probably know I prefer Supernatural, Horror, Mystery and Suspense, Thrillers, and Arcane, to Fantasy. But sometimes a fantasy author appears to change my mind: Mark T. Barnes did just that earlier in 2014, and now here is Eliza Tilton. BROKEN FOREST is the first entry in the DAATH CHRONICLES , a lively, well-written tale of a boy whose self-imposed guilt has crumpled up all his hopes, dreams, and self-esteem, to the point of resignation to fatalism and to a dull, unpleasant, manual labor life. Until:: fate presents him with a Second Chance, a dangerous, daring, adventurous quest, an opportunity to be a hero. Extra kudos to author Eliza Tilton for introducing a flair of science fiction in the form of the "Others" species.
I reviewed a copy provided by the publisher through the blog tour group, for the sole purpose of my fair and honest review. No fees were exchanged.
Avikar was a gifted fighter until the day his younger brother accidentally drowned while in his care. As he had been too busy sparring with his best friend Derrick to pay attention to his little brother he gave up his dreams and dedicated himself to his father's horse ranch. He doesn't deserve to live out his dreams since his selfishness caused the death of his baby brother! Everything changes though when his sister Jesalyn is kidnapped by strange men posing as Roamers with expensive taste in fabrics... Now he must take up fighting again, if only to save his sister. He can't lose two siblings! Will he be able to find her in time to save her? What do the men want with her and the other girls? Has she already been killed? Or do they want her for something even more sinister? Who can they trust? What is really going on?
***This series is suitable for mature young adult through adult readers who enjoy a bit of SciFi and aliens in their fantasy action adventures with plenty of intrigue, mystery, suspense and romance :)
In Daath, "a mystical plane that only exists in fables", man cannot live on FANNA alone! Or on a bowl of Rue for that MANNA! In a land that has glimmer fish, with creatures that are half caterpilliar and half Ferret, author Eliza Tilton paints with detailed strokes, a world that kindles the imagination. One is drawn into this splintered reality becoming intimate with believable characters who engage and intrigue. Most certainly, for teens, this is a ride worth taking. Much like the great rides at an amusement park, you will be satisfied by the conclusion and ready to get on line again. I can't wait for this promising author's next book. HOLY HEIFER!
