5***** Stars - Beautiful and Mysterious Story. Great description of the area this story takes place in New Zealand. The story was unique and couldn't figure out who was after them or why they were being targeted. Loved all the confusing sidetracks in the story and the characters were a hoot. Definitely a fun, exciting, and mysterious read.

Gudrun was born on a small fishing island close to Hamburg, Germany. She immigrated thirty-two years ago to New Zealand with her wonderful husband and three adventurous children. She worked for 25 years in the mental health field as a trauma specialist.

Over the years, she learned that life is a bumpy ride full of highs and lows. It’s having friends and loved ones to celebrate with that makes the highs special, and knowing one isn’t the only one who struggles makes the lows tolerable.

Since retiring in 2015, she lives in Wellington, the coolest little capital in the world, with her husband, a cheeky dog, and never far from her gorgeous grandchildren.

She brings all those bumpy-ride-experiences to her books. She writes sweet romances and psychological thrillers combining romance with beautiful dreams, hopes, and unexpected twists.

This is the first of several books in this series. It started with a betrayal and ends with some suspenseful drama. In the middle of that the two people have been duped into believing the worst of each other. They have been together threw much heartbreak. But now she is starting to feel neglected. Walking into his office was shocking. And that is just the beginning. Can these two people get the truth of what is really going on? Will it be enough to save their relationship?

💔Just how many shocks can this couple take?

🌿I liked Daniel and Ashley, the main protagonists in this story, and the erosion of the romance in their relationship was all too realistic. Once it goes into crisis mode, most of the story takes place in the rural center of New Zealand's North Island and highlights the natural beauty of the countryside and the supportive community spirit of the small-town residents. Having travelled those same roads decades ago, the author's descriptions made me a bit nostalgic.

The bulk of Ashley and Daniel's story involves unidentified malfactors seemingly set to destroy their relationship and peace of mind, even resorting to violence. Faced with outside threats, their rocky relationship takes a new turn. I thought the threats and strange events the couple faces were suspenseful and compelling but the actions of the villains of the piece did not always make sense.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
