the old pop singers tried to extend their appeal into the early rock generation by adding a rock n roll background to songs written in the old lyrical style - generally the efforts were silly - this is one of the few that succeeded
there's another unexpected element - presumably from the pen of songwriter Sherman Edwards - a sort of trill - musical half steps up and down - that Sarah Vaughn easily negotiated - blending it in to the rest of the song with her beautiful styling
the result is a breezy yet romantic song - one of the wondrous Sarah Vaughn's biggest hits
My Mom played Ms Vaughans' records over, over over... I was raised on her voice. Since my Mom's passing-left inheritance of her prized record collection. Regrettably and likely due us children...some are lost. But This song was recovered only because of Amazon's amazing collection. I AM thrilled to have it again. The immeasurable talent of Sara Vaughan lives on and on. By and by the "unforgettable Sara Vaughan" is one of her album titles. AND it fits !!!!
Sarah Vaughan is one of the all time great singers. I was a teenager when I first heard this, back in early 1959. I was impressed how she handled the task of singing this song. It helped me to expand my musical range of understanding further than the common Rock'n Roll stuff of the time. Great song. I still like it a lot. To me it is one of those unforgettable tunes. Her voice can really take a hold of your inner soul.
I can remember my Mother listening to these tunes when I was a little girl. When I was surfing the net and came upon it, I was so moved to hear this artist again, with her outstanding smooth, and syrupy voice, that I started to sing it to my granddaughter. Awesome, simply awesome. If you are a Vaughn fan, or not...I promise you,.... you won't be disappointed!!!!!
