Dacre, if you read this, thank you, and I am here, when you are ready!!!
Geraldine is a treasure. Her comedic timing is perfection, and she portrays Lucy with sensitivity, grace, and relatability. Aside from being gorgeous, Geraldine creates Lucy to be likable and vulenerable. I hope she is signed on to more movies that demonstrate her range because she has a fan for life.
Dacre...what can I say about his Adolpho-Nick? I came into this movie knowing Dacre as Billy, the BA from Stranger Things, and left wanting to watch every movie, tv show, and interview he's ever done (and I'm well on my way in doing this). His embodiment of the shy, introverted Nick compliments Geradine's out-going Lucy masterfully. These two have chemistry, and whenever they interact, my heart danced. Is it possible that these two characters could become real and befriend me so I can continue to live vicariously through them?
Is the movie itself perfect? No - there's an unrealistic portrayal of what NYC is and what individuals can afford (although the curtain divider between rooms was a nice touch), and when Lucy needs her friends, they randomly throw Dorito-like tortilla chips and a bottle of ranch dresshing at her whilst swaddling her in a blanket. The fact that they could perfectly place Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind on Lucy's ever-growing pile of "comforts" screams staged, BUT those small details did not derail from the chemistry between all the characters.
Of course, the leads are great, but the supporting cast reminds me that in this sh*tshow of a year, friends are my greatest commodity. There is no tearing each other down, and I love that it's a multi-cultural cast without it being a big deal.
If you want to watch a light-hearted comedy with a great soundtrack and phenominal Millennial actors, give this one a try.
