About the Author
Award-winning writer Ioana Visan has always dreamed about reaching the stars, but since she can't, she writes about it. After fighting the apocalypse aftermath in "Human Instincts", she played with shapeshifters in "Blue Moon Café Series: Where Shifters Meet for Drinks", she dealt with vampires in "The Impaler Legacy" series, and then she designed prosthetics in "Broken People" before tackling longer works like a fantasy trilogy and a science fiction series. Aside from publishing short stories in various Romanian magazines and anthologies, she published a Romanian short story collection "Efectul de nautil" and the Romanian edition of "Human Instincts". She received the Encouragement Award from The European Science Fiction Society at Eurocon 2013. For more information, please visit http://www.ioanavisan.tk

The world building is good. Everything is revealed on a need to know basis. Many questions arise. Some are answered. Some will need to wait until the next installment. Some may need more than one more story.
I want to know about the Nightingale Circus. I also want to know about The Golden Lady. I want to know about the war. The characters are established but are still evolving. I have so many questions about them and this world. I like Dale and Aurore, the Golden Lady. The circus people are interesting, creepy but interesting.
I am intrigued enough to want to come back to this world. I know there is another story ready for reading. I hope there are more and that all my questions will be answered.
The story was very well written. I actually couldn't put it down even though I was very uninspired by it.
It mainly involved Aurore or The Golden Lady, Armstrong or Dale, Cole, Big Dino, Spinner, Rake, Nicholas, and the Nightingale.
There are lots of other characters in this book. I was under the impression it was about prosthetics, and it was. However it also includes family, love, war, opera, and a Circus! Just putting those things together in a story that is very well written is a feat to be applauded!
Even though this was not for me in the long run if you are a fan of futuristic science fiction or war you may like this.
Broken People by Romanian author Ioana Visan is cutting edge science fiction, with a thread of mystery and suspense running throughout. Visan does a great job of creating characters who readers can relate to, and situations that, though science fiction, seem real. Broken People is more than science fiction – it’s a commentary on society’s treatment of those who are different, and how they cope with it.
You don’t have to be a sci-fi fan to enjoy this book.
I was fortunate to be a 'beta reader' of an earlier version, and I'm pleased to see this novel here in final form.
