3.5 Stars!

Bull's Novella.

This one is a tear jerker. Emotional and Heartbreaking!

Sometimes you can't choose who love, love chooses you. A story of being trapped in a relationship without emotion and battling your feelings for someone you can never have. I knew what would come, but it was still heartbreaking to say the least.

I'm having a tough time rating or reviewing this one. If you've read What Doesn't Destroy Us, then you know there was always something lingering between Bull and Babs. And you know how it ends. How can I review without spoilers? This story was tough to get through, not because I knew what would happen, but because I had to re-read most of the scenes from What Doesn't Destroy Us. The thing is, I don't know if reading this novella after you read the first book is a good idea or even after. If you read it before, the story will be spoiled, if you read it after it's repetitive. If you take out all the scenes dealing with Shadow and Dani, the story would've been more fulfilling, which would be tough because the lives of all the club member are intertwined. Nonetheless I'm still addicted to The Devil's Dust. You know what I need? Bull's story in about 5 years. The ending left us to ponder... What if... I can't say. You just have to read it.

Bull wakes up to a filthy motorcycle club, named Devil Dust, he is the president of the club, and can't believe how filthy place is, he feels the place needs a woman's touch. Just as he thought of that, in walks Babs, she is Locks wife, Locks is he Vice President of the club, and Bull doesn't like that lately he is using him as a scapegoat not to go home to his wife. He is cheating on his wife, something that Bull doesn't approve of but he can't say anything because his father before him who was the president of The Devil Dust, never laid down any rules about this sort of thing. Bull feels if he tries to set a rule down now about that, his bikers would rebel and veto his vote. Babs received her name because she speaks talks a lot and can be heard anywhere around the club no matter how many people are there, Bull has always felt an attraction to her, but because she was Locks wife, he couldn't do anything about it. There was one unspoken rule in the club, you don't mess with someone else's old lady once he laid claim to her, and Bull and Locks grew up together in the MC, with Locks father being the Vice President of the club, with Bull's father being the President. Bull can't even give a clue to Babs that he knows Locks is cheating, that would make him look bad.

Babs goes to the room that she knows Locks uses whenever he stays at the club, which is more often than not lately. As she opens the door she sees Candy on her knees performing oral sex on her husband, and Locks with his shirt unbottoned. She starts screaming at Candy a known club whore, who the bikers use as sex only, and would never lay claim to her.

I love these two characters in the other stories. I would love to "see" more into Bull's life. I know he's Mr. Big Bad President and he acts like it sometimes...though he has a soft heart for those he cares deeply for. Babs is one of those people. The author hinted in The Scars that Define Us there was something more going on between Babs and Bull. This novella will give you more insight into that relationship, how it came to be, and where it was going.

I think it's interesting to see how the MC President interacts with his people and the things he thinks when his daughter, Dani, comes on the scene. Bull hasn't had the easiest time as an adult and running the club...but I think he's done the best job he knew how. Some of the people he surrounded himself with were not the best picks. They chose to turn their backs on him. Which would make me a little leery.

The Devil's Dust is definitely a series you should read. This novella can be read first or third. You decide. It will have a few spoilers in it, however, not enough to deter you from reading the first two books. I, personally, like this series, and am looking forward to seeing what comes next for the Devil's Dust!

I beta read this book for the author - so my review may be a tad different from the others.

OMG...this one was so sad...it was not what I expected at all...but it had several small stories of different relationships from young to older generations and how they all impacted each other. Babs and her abusive failed relationship with Locks, The Devil's Dust VP and Bull...the sexy beast of a President who silently watches what hell she is living, while falling in love with her. We also get a glimpse of the betrayal of Bull by his EX "Lady" (which is in the first book) and how the discovery of a grown daughter he never knew he had, throws Bull into a state of turmoil.
The domino effect of one bad decision against a member from a rival club causes heartbreak and devastating loss for Bull and the club...while a traitor in their midst is outed.
A really emotional and sexy novella with a not so HEA for some and the promise of a better future for others.
