Rylie's character improves in this book and it was better than the first.
There are a few major events that happen a little too quickly for me, but I can understand that Crane isn't the kind of author to dwell on something (except maybe the occasional deepening of kisses and feel of a hand on a wing).
There was a math error that drove me crazy. It's all a year later... a year after Rylie was 16, but every reference is about "16 years ago..." 16+1 does not equal 16.
I finished this book 24 hours ago and have forgotten a surprising amount. I did read it in 3 days, so it should be fresh. Read it quickly with some interest, but quickly forgot... Take that to mean what you will.

I read the sample of the 3rd book and decided I was done. Third book is.... how do I say this without a spoiler... very un-realistic, even in book fantasy faery land. I'm out on this series.

This is (as mentioned before) is a YA fantasy. Second in a series and lots of fun if you want a mental holiday. The heroine can be slightly annoying unless you pull back a bit and remember her age and the shocks she's endured. The lovey dove-y stuff is a bit over done and can be a tad annoying but the story makes up for it. I'm fascinated with the *true* function of the wings. This series would make a really fun set of movies.

The first book was very good. I couldn't wait to read it every evening. This one was good, but a few things led me to give this four stars instead of five. SPOILER ALERT!!

How many times did she turn on her heels? I visualize what I read, and this was so unnatural and said too many times. She also arranged her shoes by size. Why would she have different sized shoes? I also wondered why a human girl would arrange a meeting with a feary boy so far away from the home where she is a guest - in a foreign place- that she'd get lost. This turn of events seemed odd.

I'm enjoying this series so far. As soon as I finish one book, I have to buy the next to see what happens! The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is that I think 5 stars is for real "literature", and this is light fiction. Personally though, I usually enjoy light fiction more than what qualifies as Literature. Anyway, this is a very enjoyable series. The writing style is quite good, and only occasionally slightly clunky. I really appreciate the "clean read"

Cover: It's gorgeous!!!

Rylie:

I was irritated because she would not admit her feelings for Kallan... I feel that she's just with Adam so she can feel normal, so she can forget that she's a fairy... But she keeps saying that she loves Adam, and doesn't want to hurt him... If she really loves Adam then she would let him go cause it's obvious that her feelings for Adam changed... Anyways, I still love her OCD...

Kallan:

Thumbs up for him... He's very patient with Rylie and he's discreetly trying to make Rylie admit that she has feelings for him too... He's also very hepful to Rylie and whenever she will ask him to do something, he will honor it even though it's against his wishes...

Story:

I like the first book than this one... It's just that I felt that this book focused too much on Rylie's feelings for two men, a human and a faery... Though, I did like it focused on her feelings, it was just too much... Her confusion was all over the place and she can't choose between them... And I also like the story because Rylie met 'him'... It may not have been the best of meetings but in the end it all worked out, it's just ended sadly...

And her best friend!!! Something was really fishy about her from the start of the confession... I felt like she was going to use Rylie's confession to destroy her, though she did not do that... If she had done that, I would really hate her...

And the result of the `battle' was something I could not believe... He should have experienced something more brutal than that!!! He just can't find an easy way out!!! Grr...

And lastly, I want to kick the butts of those faeries... They are tied too much on their norms...

Broken Promise, the sequel to Dark Promise, included in the Faery Realms boxed set, was well worth the purchase price and the time it took to read it. Rylie, a fairy that lived the first 16 years of her life in the dark about her true identity, is back at high school and doing her best to adapt to live as a normal teenager, but it's tougher than she hoped, as the fairy prince she's betrothed to shows up around every turn. There's plenty of teenager whining and moping about boys, life in general, and friendships (to be expected) but it's tempered by plenty of action and the magical fairy world the authors masterfully describe. I really enjoyed it, and was pleased to find it an appropriate read for my 13-year-old niece.

I loved book two and am now almost finished with #3.

The play out of Rylie's feeling for discovering her true self, trying to keep her romance alive with Adam, and fighting her attraction to Kallan, make for a great story. I am not going to give anything away, so I will simply say: "read this book if you like this genre. It is GOOD!" Enjoy!
